I am thinking of trying this but since such a small amount would be added, I am not understanding how it can be mixed so that this small amount is infused ithroughout the shampoo. Any helpful tips/tricks?

You shampoo may well already have oil. Mine does.

I tried melting the coconut oil in my palm, then adding a squirt of shampoo and mixing it in my palm with one finger. It gave nice results. But ever since I noticed that my over-the-counter shampoo contains oil, I don't bother.

This is how I do it, although I do more of a 2:1 shampoo:coconut oil mix.

Scoop a heaped tablespoon of coconut oil out of the pot (this may take more or less effort, depending on how solid it is) and put it in the bottom of a glass. Put the glass into a mug that has a bit of freshly boiled water in the bottom. Leave it alone for 5-10mins, until it thoroughly melts, then give it a quick stir just to make sure it is all liquid. Then, add two heaped tablespoons of shampoo and whisk it with the spoon until a thick, milk-like homogeneous liquid is formed. Use. ^_^

This is exactly how I do it, except that when I mix the oil and shampoo it turns watery and runny. So I put it in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes, which makes it thicken back up - still not as thick as the shampoo alone, but a big improvement.

I melt the oil, then add it to the shampoo bottle and shake it up. It separates, but the mixing decreases the melting point of the oil to below room temperature so it stays liquid. I just shake it up thoroughly right before using. It does get way runnier than straight shampoo, so I have it in a squeeze bottle adn just squirt it straight onto my head.

I've used a blender for lotion in the past, that worked, and then after that I shook it up well before each use. I think a blender should work for conditioner too since they are pretty similar.

I just mix it up in my palms when I'm in the shower. I use a clear shampoo and the coconut oil turns it cloudy so I can tell when it's properly mixed.
