Surely there's an easier name for this style??

Hi everybody!

I thought of this hairstyle the other day and tried it out. I liked it so much I wore my hair like this on Sunday. My fingers have to get used to braiding (twisting, really) two strands only; I'm too used to using more strands at one time LOL

Here are some pictures~

No complaints here on the number of pictures!! I love this and I love all of your other hairstyles. And I love your butterfly clips which I know are probably unattainable from where I live!!

Thanks, Alvrodul! Actually, this is really easy the way I learned to do it from a braid book someone gave me one time. I'll try my best to explain~

*Start at one "corner" i.e., the left side of your head above your eye.

*Gather a medium amount of hair and split it in half. Each piece should be about the width of your finger.

*Twist the outer-most strand up and over the inner-most strand. Your once "inner-most strand" is now on the outside, so to speak. (I hope this makes sense!)

Hint: You don't need to actually twist each strand in one direction before crossing them in the opposite direction, like you normally do when rope braiding. Just gather, twist the outer-most piece up and over, add hair to your new "outer" piece, twist up and over, add hair to your "new" outer piece, twist....you get the message http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/terryandjody/More%20Smilies/lookinmirror-1.gif

In other words, I'm not stopping to twist each piece before braiding. I just gather, twist up and over, gather, twist up and over, etc. Kind of a twist as you go along thing.

I hope this helps! The thing is, unlike a true rope braid where you twist in one direction and cross in the opposite direction, basically, this one twists in the same direction all the way down. That direction is towards the "inside" or middle of your head.

There, now that you're probably thoroughly confused, I'll sign off! Sorry! http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/terryandjody/Smilies/groan.gif

It seems that you quite often wear off-centered updos : how do you manage to ? I find this very uncomfortanle, it gives me neck /head pains, yet it can be very beautiful so I'm quite envious that you seem to pull it off effortlessly ! How do you do it ?
