I've tried looking it up online but couldn't find anything. So here is my silly question (can't believe I'm actually asking this):

Can you feel your hair growing? I know we can SEE it growing in photo's that we take, but what about physically feeling it? If so, how can you tell… Does your scalp tingle?

Thanks for reading my ridiculous question :blushing:

I don't feel it at my scalp, but from time to time I do realize on my skin of my shoulder/back that it is growing, as I feel it longer.

There are no silly questions, only silly people. ;) I love that you asked this question.

Hair grows an average of 1/2 inch a month. If we assume a month is 28 days, that's 2/100 of an inch or half a millimeter a day. Considering that this growth is spread out throughout the day, I think it is unlikely that we could feel hair growing.

I more likely explanation for tingling in the scalp is a change in circulation. You'll notice a similar sensation when you take a contrast shower (alternating very hot water and very cold water), particularly under a high pressure nozzle.

:) I was told once that when your scap itches (normal itch) its when your hair is pulling on your skin because its growing.
So going by that, every time you lightly scratch you are helping your hair grow.

Sometimes I think I can, but I know I really can't. As Selderon pointed out, it grows at a very slow pace. You wouldn't be able to pick up on such a small difference. But sometimes my head gets a little tickly/tingly feeling and I say "oh... my hair just grew!"

I can't actually feel it but I do notice that the roots feel funny right before a growth spurt.

I can actually feel my hair when I concentrate on it, I can feel it tingle, but then I have Asperger syndrome and we often have feelings where others do not. I can also feel the various areas of my brain. I can feel the bones in my feet and parts of my belly region, nerves are patched in so to speak which in most people are subconscious, it can be quite distracting at times.
