I tried to search if anyone has made a similar topic, but I didn't come up with anything relevant.

Anyway, I am a senior in High School now, and earlier today I was confronted with the fact that, although I have been planning to go to prom with my boyfriend all year, and I have a dress, I have planned absolutely nothing else. Including my hair. Now, I am not usually one to flip out about things as trivial as one night of dancing and supposed romance, but I really just want to have fun and look good for this night, to end my relatively sad senior year with something enjoyable and memorable.

I feel a little bad about desperately asking you guys to come up with ideas for me, but I am truly at a loss at what to do with my hair. I don't want to just wear it lose (I do that a bit too much already, hence some damage), but I am absolutely pathetic at updos. I can't even imagine learning to do something extremely fancy and complicated by the 27th. I was just hoping that some of you guys could offer me ideas, such as for possibly curling, relatively simple updos, and other things I could possibly do. I really really really do not want to get it done at a stylists-it's quite expensive, and I am trying to make this the one of the cheapest, yet nicest nights ever.( I don't even own the dress I'm going to wear, lol. I didn't want to buy one, so I am borrowing it from a friend) I just want to do something myself, and any ideas would be appreciated. And pictures of your prom hair would be AWESOME. Thank you guys!
:cheese: Cheese for you!

A sock bun of some kind? You can decorate it with sparklies. Or you can have sock bun curls.

Be sure to test out the hairstyle before the big day!

Another sockbun vote! I wore a low, off-center sockbun, accented with two hairsticks, for a black-tie gala:

That's a good idea! Thank you guys. :) And luxepiggy, that looks beautiful! I've never done a sock bun, so I'll try out the style tomorrow to see how it goes.

Don't get frustrated if it doesn't turn out well the first time 'round. It took me about 5 attempts before I got the hang of it, when I first learned! I actually did a blog post with some sock bun tips & tricks I usually employ, if you find yourself looking for some additional help (^(oo)^)

Thank you for the tips! I checked your post out, it seems very helpful in figuring out the sock bun. :)

A couple of friends and I are going to masquerade ball this weekend, so we were all debating what hairstyles to wear since it's full-on ballroom dancing. The three of us came up with ideas that we do some form of french of dutch braids to the hair from our faces and look good all night. When we started looking at ways of putting in accents and making it more fancy without too much extra work, we came up with these links:

By CuteGirlsHairstyles (which has more braids on the side bar): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrqFuyCJbE8&feature=fvsr

and;

Dream Weaver Braiding:

You could also try doing a plait, but in my opinion they look like wider herringbone braids, which is plain for the amount of work that has to be put into it.

@Luxepiggy: I have a girl-crush on your hair!:crush:

Oops, forgot to say: Kyla - my vote is for a sockbun too, with pretty accessories. It'll keep your beautiful hair safe from harm! =)

If you like semi-historic styles, Rapunsel's Resource has some fantastic ones: http://rapunzelsresource.wordpress.com/

My prom hair was very simple: I curled it, pulled it half-back, pushed it up a little to give it some volume, and secured with bobby pins, then sort of twisted the rest of my hair into a ponytail that fell over my shoulder and secured with pins. I had a headband/tiara that accented the front. I did it myself in about 15 minutes and it stayed in until the next morning! (Although I used a ton of hairspray). I'll try to find a picture.
Something like that would be easy but pretty.
Or, any low ponytail look or half-up look accented with a small side braid would look good.
What is the cut of your dress? V-neck, strapless, spaghetti straps? Knowing that could also determine what styles would be good. And what about jewelry? If you're planning on wearing certain earrings or a necklace, hairstyle could be worked around that as well to show it off the best.

Have actually thought about this a bit. If I were going to a prom today, this is the style I'd go for. Alaina Huffman wears it in Stargate Universe. It's pretty, modern, up, and can be either a bit messy or not. For me, not being perfect at it would make it better.

I've also tried it on my own hair and it's very easy.

She takes sections and twists them back. Can anyone shed light on what's going on in the back of her head?

I've also seen this with a ribbon (tied like a headband) to make it look a bit Greco - Roman. Also perfect for prom!
