So my journey towards long hair is going really well, thank you LHC, but since I'm now not backcombing nor using any form of hairspray anymore. I'm wondering how I can hold volume in my hair. I put it in a really high bun it overnight, most nights, and when I take it down it's lovely, curly and massive but it loses volume in a matter of hours.

So my question is, what would be a good hair friendly product to use to keep the volume in my hair?

I suppose it should also be noted that I'm very allergic to aloe vera, so aloe vera based products are a big no no. :(

Thanks:)

I'd love to know as well. I used to love backcombing.

A dusting of cornstarch. I started rubbing cornstarch into my roots to keep the greasies down on days I didn't wash my hair, and noticed I was able to get huge volume. Only catch is that it's not so great on darker haircolors because it's white.

Cornstarch? Well, I'll definately give it a shot. My hair is baby pink at the moment, so it should show up that much on my hair :)

Thanks :)

A great alternative to corn starch is volumizing powder by got2b schwarzkopf brand. It rubs into your hands turning the powder invisible then run your hands though your roots. Also a light oiling followed by a dry shampoo can pump things up a little.

Have you tried flaxseed gel? I use this to hold my natural curl, and it works quite well for me. You can make it very thin, or water it down a bit to use as a spray-on product.

There's a thread here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=14852)about how to make it.

Shout out to Roseate. Thanks for the thread link! I did not start this thread, but so glad you chimed in, as I, TOO, will benefit from researching Flaxseed gel. :flowers:

I second the volumizing powder. Thanks to it I have my dream hair, I used to always backcomb my hair but now the powder does it for me, though it feels odd, it is like violin rosin. It lasts until I wash again and I use only a little.

I'll have to try this. I think my hair is a little too dark for cornstarch, but this might be a good solution.

Using cacao powder as dry shampoo gives me volume at the roots as well, so that might be a good alternative!

I agree with melissa8989, dry shampoo gives me so much volume when my hair is a bit oily or has been oiled lightly at the roots if it's freshly washed. Castor oil is good for this as it's quite thick, I find. Usually though, I dry shampoo and then rub this Avon volumising lotion into the roots. The Avon stuff seems hair friendly, I haven't found it to be drying at all (unlike John Frieda volumising stuff, eugh!).

I've found that baby powder is able to give me some lift. Just don't use too much, or you'll end up with a powdered wig look. :p
