I've been searching for a thread like this, however, couldn't find anything. If it already exists please send me a link.
Share your experience and a progress. Tell us all what you're doing to make growing bangs less annoying :-D Why did you decide to get rid of this little "piece of hair"? :-)

I started growing my bangs out probably about a year and a half ago. I just let them grow!! Using barrettes once they started getting in my eyes, and headbands. They are now jaw length and I can brush them back and put them up with the rest of my hair. Once they gor to maybe nose length, I used hairspray to put them back into my ponytails.

I tried for 4 years and got them as long as BSL and then a month ago I cut them back in. My hair just looked wispy and thin where my fringe was. I did nothing other than let them grow and they grew quickly within a year they fitted in updo's. I like my fringe so its stopping around, but good luck in growing them out; its easier once you can put them behind your ears. Just clip them back!

I used head bands once they started to get in the way. that was a few years ago.

i grew out my bangs because my hair does that farrah hair flippy thing.. i was tired of straightening them every morning to find that they were flipped up by noon..
they never got in my eyes really until they were chin length.. before that they just naturally flipped out of the way..
i did use a lot of headbands to hide the flippiness..

Growing mine too even though I cut them only two moths ago. They are at the point where they cover my eyes but are still not long enough I could put them behind my ears. I regret cutting them even thought they give a softer shape to my face, but I always have to style them with heat. If only they grew faster :(

I am growing mine out also. The last time I cut them was a yr. ago last Mar. They are finally an inch past my chin. I used headbands, clips, combs to get through the rough stages. They are finally getting long enough not to bug me too much with being in my face.

I'm currently growing them out. They are now, when pulled, a half inch past chin, but with wave, exactly at chin.
They aren't really "bangs" anymore, though perhaps they never were. Mine were actually long side bangs so growing them to chin is/was no biggie. Actually I repeatedly go between chin and nose, as I get fed up with growing out. I find that chin+ is an awkward phase as the rest of my hair is so much longer they don't blend well and no longer look like side bangs at all.
I hope this time to try to get them even with the rest of my hair. I've had side bangs for eight years: all of my adult life! I want to know what I look like with more one length hair!

I guess I'm not really committed yet, but especially since I have hot, humid weather to look forward to, I'm letting them grow - again. I have a thinning hairline so that's why I've kept the bangs. And the forehead is high. I plan to "get over it". I started several months letting the heavy cut grow. It is now long enough to catch in side combs. The wispy ones are still short, but thankfully I can put in a quick roller & the stay brushed back (w/ a tad of spray).

Yes! Thank you! I was considering making a similar post myself haha :)
I like having bangs, but now that i've given up heat styling they're much more difficult to manage and getting them to look right is impossible...so i'm growing them out again. I don't find them too hard to grow out, I actually had them grown out until I chopped them back last month. Kind of regret that! Right now they just go...like 1mm past my nose when I pull them down. For now i'm just brushing them back into my hair, they don't look too bad but a lot of the time I pin them up.

Headbands, clips and bobby-pins were my friends. Mine grew fairly fast.
I got mine as long as about armpit length. I loved that I could fit them in all my updos but I am thinking that I'm going to cut them back in. I think I look so much better with them.

My bangs are so major thick, no idea why I cut them off this way. So my braid looks really thin.
My bangs are chin length and if I put them in updo then half of the hair at my nape falls out. Very awkward :-) I decided to french braid them somehow. Now I wish I was a great braider. I'm mediocre at best haha

Mine are soon starting to be about collarbone lenght. And remnants of an older, thicker fringe can be seen somewhere around armpit lenght. I don't remember when was the last time that I didn't have shorter hair on the front. I just go back and forth with them. Right now though I think I'm motivated enough to actually grow them out since I really would love if all that hair to was in my ponytail circumference. It would easily be 1+ cm to it :)
I used to just pin the fringe back with nice and colourful pins when it was too short to go behind ears. Then it grew long enough to stay there. Then it grew too long for that and looked just silly with the tips hanging from behind the ears, like I had odd strands growing from there. Even though it's now long enough to go into updos it usually slowly slips out during the day (unless I wear my hair on french/dutch braid that starts from the top of the head) so it's at bit awkward stage still and I haven't yet been able to stop wearing pins. I always keep pins in my bag so I can pin the stray strands back. I lose a hair or two occasionally because they just have this irritating habit of getting stuck. Beats having hair on my face though :D

Do you use fabric bands? And then just fasten it with pins? That's what I do, even though looks kinda silly on me.

I have a cowlick exactly somewhere in my bangs haha So it took lots of straightening too.

I've had a fringe (bangs) since I was about 12, don't much like my forehead but I do like that a fringe above my eyebrows makes me look younger! A short fringe is not difficult to manage, mine doesn't become too unruly for a hairdryer and two fingers until it hit the top of my nose. I grew out about half a good few years ago as there was so much hair it needed thinning scissors; used kirby grips (bobby pins) to hold it back until I could tuck it behind one ear. I am growing the whole lot this time, as I feel my ponytail needs all the help it can get! So far it's only down to the bridge of my nose so I'm sort of side sweeping, not sure I can hack it tho. :(

I regret it too... Mine were not more than 1cm long, so you can imagine how long it takes to grow it! Huh :'(

I'm growing mine out! (...again. I tend to go through about three-year cycles of having bangs vs. not.)
They are currently a little past my eyes. I just clip them back-- they were just wispy bangs so it's not that much of a hardship.
Growing out big blunt bangs sucks, though. grew out some of those out several years ago. :shudder: I don't think I'll ever get heavy bangs cut in again.

Okay, so I grew out my bangs when I was 13. They looked awful and we lived in the tropics so they were always sweaty. I have to share this photo because it's so bad - I should have grown them out much, much earlier.

For about a year I held them back with clips until they finally got long enough to pull straight back into a pony. After about another 6 months I could part them and get them into a braid. Even when I was about 18 and my hair was TBL, the bangs were catching up and still at waist, really damaged because of all the clipping and never having been trimmed. They finally caught up during a major (12") cut in college, and now it's like they were never there to begin with!

I'm growing mine too, and I have several times, but for some reason it was very painless...i think cause I was checking my length so much i forgot about them...they were side bangs, and now they are chin length. I didn't even clip them much...
So thanks to LHC they didn't bother me. lol

I found that with growing out heavy bangs, as they got to about chin length I cut them diagonally and blended them into my hair. It looked much nicer and didn't delay the process :)

I'm growing mine out, I've never not had bangs since childhood which I did most of the time then too. Idk why not, my forehead and hairline is fine! I used to get heavy bangs cut, pretty much half of my head. I need the thickness and am excited to see if my hair looks thicker after. I like bangs but dbf doesn't and I need the thickness anyway. Hooray! I'm just gunna let them do their thing until shoulder.

I started growing my bangs out when I started growing my hair out (last November), and they were originally really short, about eyebrow/top of eye length. Now they are nose length and I have a centre parting. I just find now bangs, for me, will look better with my wavy hair when it's long. I don't heat style them but sometimes they are uncooperative and decide to stick out everywhere. If so I just pin them back with bobby pins.
My eventual goal is to get my length to WL and then maintain to get my layers and bangs the same length.

I grew mine out back when I was 10, and I think I'm still traumatized. I'd hold them back with a headband and the ends would curl straight up behind it. Never having bangs ever again, no matter how cute my husband thinks they'd look on me!

I let them grow out with the rest of my hair, got them to just below my nose, saw a picture of a girl with cute bangs, and hacked them off again. Now I'm back to growing them out. My bangs grow relatively fast and are about half way down my nose again. They're at a really annoying length, but I either do a small french braid to keep them out of the way or clip them to the side.

I started growing out my fringe in late 09, when I stopped going to the salon every other month for a cut. By march/april of this year the shortest bits were about collarbone length, and they blended into the rest of my hair quite naturally, although when I wore my hair down you could definitely tell where they were compared to the rest of my hair due to the layering.
I cut in a small amount of fringe about a month ago as a diversion for myself, since I am going through a rough emotional period right now and was tempted to cut all my hair off out of frustration. Cutting in fringe was a way to get a 'change' without losing years of growth, and it's less damaging than trying to bleach out all the stupid henna like I was contemplating. On days where it won't sit right ( I do have to flatiron, since I have naturally wavy/curly hair) I twist it back and secure it with a mini bobby pin and tuck the ends back into my updo.

Stupidly, I got bangs cut Sept '09. I do not look good in bangs and I don't like having hair in my face...don't know what I was thinking. I just swept them to the side. They are now collarbone length and I may cut them back up to chin length but that is as short as they are going to be. :)

I'm growing my bangs out as well. It's very frustrating. They're at chin level but very wispy. I'm waiting impatiently but for now pretty clips and headbands do the job of keeping them out of the way.

I've found a pic where I was about eleven years old, CURLY bangs! So terrible I can't express it))).
Does anyone know a good youtube tutorial for braiding hair in front? I watched some but I still find it very difficult to do it by myself.

I grew my bangs out a LOOOOOONG time ago. My hair was cut in a bob at the time and I decided I was sick ok bangs. I've never gone back and have taken care not to give my kids the curse of bangs. Until one asked for them. 2 days later, she didn't want them anymore.:p

I used to have face-framing fringe that I would pin back with flat little clips (shaped like an alligator clip) when I needed to. Then I got tired of hair falling into and sticking to my sweaty face when I was doing house or yard work, so I decided to grow them out. Probably the most useful way to deal with them, besides the flat little clips, was lace braiding that started above one ear, went across the top of my head, then down to the other ear and pinned back with a small claw-clip, crossed bobby pins, or other device. It looked like a braided head band - very nice.

I'm growing my bangs out as well, they are a PAIN to grow out:mad:
A couple of weeks ago I trimmed them at an angle so they would lay better; now they're back at about my mouth.
I have a high forehead, and I'm not sure if I will like having all my hair up:confused: I figure I can always trim them back to a long side swept bang if needed.

i have had fringes and same length hair in the past and both never looked right! i have finally discovered that my face frame suits bangs from cheek bone to jaw bone! fringe just looks naff on me and if my bangs get to long my whole face frame drags down! my bangs need a little layering aswell!

I grew mine out years ago in high school after having them for as long as I'd had hair. I realized my mom's China doll haircut was just not working for my half European hair, which wanted to wave in different directions all over. Headbands are your friend, and I also started pushing them to one side, and when they got long enough, had my hairdresser actually cut them as sideswept bangs. Most to the left, and a little to the right. The transition growing them out was much nicer that way as side bangs. My hairdresser just kept letting some of it grow out, while trimming the ones in the middle, until it became layers around my face, which are still growing out, but look natural.

I've already grown mine out. First it was cut way above my eyebrows, (I looked like a mushroom)...Afterwards I was able to divide it in half and clip it out of the way (yay!), currently, it's hovering just above my shoulder blades. (Not sure if that counts as grown out), I think it took about 2 years. I'd still love to hear other people's experiences and tricks though!

I've had a love/hate relationship with them, some day's I hated it some day's loved it. now I'm heat-free, hell no I'll cut them back, NEVER......only if my curl allows me to :p
I have bangs right now with a grown out slash awkward strage pixie, it's the only life safer I have at the moment, I wear mostly hat's and leave my bangs out and pretend to be cute :)

I'm growing them out along with my pixie/shag cut. So in the grand scheme of things, my bangs are about the longest part of my hair. By modern beauty standards, I look much better with bangs. I've got a long face and no bangs really drag me down. But I intend to keep them pulled back and part of updos once my hair is long enough.

Maybe something wavy... Not bangs really. 30s style secured with bobby pins? It can soften the face nicely.
