I've discovered a goldmine of vintage combs from Susannah's Combs (http://www.susannahscombs.com/Index.html), and I was wondering if anyone here has ever purchased from this site because I would like to know if they were happy with their combs before I go ahead and buy one that I've been watching like a hawk.

Nice find! Those are really pretty; out of my price range but very lovely.

Yeah, they definitely are pricey, but I'm going to start saving now and hope no one buys the one I want before I have the money to pay for it. ;)

Melaine Marie I have bought from Susannah before and I was quite happy.:D I bought from her ebay store. I believe I bought 5 combs from her. And yes they are really beautiful in real life. She is a very nice person to buy from. Her S&H is great and also her packaging of her combs. If I could visit her store in person I would go in a heart beat. Hope that helps.
P.S. Heidi W told me about Susannah combs. Heidi know a lot about antique combs.
Maybe you can PM Heidi W and she can help. She was very helpful to my introduction to antique combs.

I've bought one comb off her and I was very happy with my purchase. My comb was completely as described and photographed and she was very helpful in email conversations.

Oh, lovely sites like this make me want to buy combs, and do my hair in old fashioned styles. My question is, how do I even use combs or put them in? They baffle me on their use. But once I learn, I'm sure I'll be using them often.

Finnenna, the main use I had in mind was to use them as peinetas for the mantillas that I wear. If you go to Google and type in "mantilla y peineta" you'll see what I'm talking about. ;)
But some of the smaller ones look lovely for up-dos and other such things. :D

Melanie Marie - I have seven or eight (or is it nine?) of Susannah's combs. I've been thrilled with each one of them. I would recommend her as a good source for The Real Deal.
Sadly, now that my hair is long enough to actually warrant such combs, I rarely wear them. I own about 30 antique combs of that ilk. I've been collecting them for decades. But I don't wear any of them any more. Every once in a while (usually on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday), I'll wear one of them with a long chapel veil, but that's about it.

StephanieB - Good Friday is when the women at my church wear chapel veils too. :) I usually wear them without the combs, but I've been want a nice peineta for a while now...
