Hey, cool thread!

"Your hair all around me, baby you surround me.."
-Lonestar, Amazed

So it doesn't say much about hair, but with that line I always get this image of a woman with long, thick, amazing hair...

Very cool thread indeed:

An old Arabic song that tells the story of a man who goes to see a fortune teller and she tells him of the woman he will meet, fall in love with and who will break his heart. One of the descriptions of her is that she has, "wild gypsy hair that has travelled all across the world".

My mother always told me that line reminded her of me :o

I’ve had enough
This is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair

.....

I don't wanna change,
And I don't wanna be ashamed
I'm the spirit of my Hair
It's all the glory that I bare
I am my Hair!

Anyone heard this one by Lady Gaga? :) Called ' Hair' :)

And this song is sooooo sooo cool :
JET - Are you gonna be my girl

Big black boots,
Long brown hair,
She's so sweet
With her get back stare.

Porcupine Tree says:
"Hair blown in an open car
summer dress slips down your arms..."

Marillion (Fish) says:
"Do you remember
the cherry blossom in the market square
do you remember
we thought it was confetti in our hair.."

But most importantly Tom waits says:
"Now, her hair was as black as a bucket of tar
skin as white as a cuttlefish bone
I left Texas to follow Lucinda
now I'll never see heaven nor home..." (- Lucinda)

and

"Last night I dreamed that I was dreaming of you
And from a window across the lawn I watched you undress
Wearing your sunset of purple tightly woven around your hair
That rose in strangled ebony curls" (- Watch Her Disappear)

There are more I love, I'm sure...

Blackmore's night :crush:

- Ocean gypsy ( love it the most)
Silken threads like wings still shine,
Wind swept pleasures still make patterns
in her lovely hair... so dark and fine...
Stands on high beneath the seas, cries no more,
her tears have dried...
Oceans weep for her, the ocean sighs...

- Storm
She seems to come from everywhere,
Welcome to the dragon's lair.
Fingers running through your hair,
She asks you out to play...

Oh also...sooo beautiful...one of my favorite songs
Nightwish - While your lips are still red
Sweet little words made for silence not talk
Young heart for love not heartache
Dark hair for catching the wind
Not to veil the sight of a cold world

Great thread :):hollie:
I loved this song from the musical "Hair".

Gimme a head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me it down to there, hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for the fleas
A hive for the honey bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short

Down to here
Down to there
Down to where
It stops by itself (don't have to cut it 'cause it stops by itself)

They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair!

NO! :scissors::scissors::scissors::scissors: NOT NOW, NOT EVER, NEVER !!!!

Just a few:

Steve Azar - Sunshine
Your dark hair draped across my pillow
Says I finally got it right
And as I watch you dreaming, twisted in the sheets
I can't stop thinking about last night

Kevin Denney - That's Just Jessie
That's just a dirt road, summer '89
That's just a back seat and some muscadine wine
That's just auburn hair brushing 'cross my cheek
And those 'Kiss me' green eyes smilin' back at me

Dolly Parton - Jolene
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene

Roy Orbison - You're My Baby

I love that hair, long and black
Hanging down to the middle of your back
Don't cut it off whatever you do
I need it to run my fingers through
'Cause you're my baby, you're my sugar
Don't mean maybe, you're my baby

stephen speaks - out of my league

it's her hair and her eyes today
that just simply take me away
and the feeling that i'm falling further in love
makes me shiver but in a good way
all the times i have sat and stared
as she thoughtfully thumbs through her hair
and she purses her lips, bats her eyes as she plays,
with me sitting there slack-jawed and nothing to say

I wrote a song called Like a Snowflake and there is a part that goes...

our love is ever growing
faster than my hair,
faster than my garden,
la la la la la la

I like the song He Doesn't Know by Fleet Foxes,

Penniless and tired, let your hair grow long
I was looking at you there and your face looked wrong
Memory is an echo silent song
I didn't understand

And, Arcade Fire
we let our hair grow long
and forget all we used to know,
then our skin gets thicker
from living out in the snow.

And of course the song Hair by the cowsills
Give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair

"It's a winter's day and I know for certain, when I go outside my head'll start hurtin'
So I wrap it up in materials to keep my head from getting cold
And say to all my friends, 'When I have kids,
I'm gon' want that child to be a long-haired child!'
When I go outside to mingle in the snow, my head looks like a globe
Ain't no hair on it at all. Do I buy a wig?!
Should I grow my beard, and comb it upwards and around my ears?
Well I can't wait for the kids to come, can't wait for the kids to come
Say 'Hey babe you gon' know no barbershop!' "

This is the first one I thought of:

Sting - Fields of Gold
"So she took her love
For to gaze awhile
Among the fields of barley
In his arms she fell
As her hair came down
Among the fields of gold"

I always imagine a quiet, secluded barley fields rustling in the wind, and a girl with long, blond hair pulling some sort of hair fork/stick out of her hair and it all just falling down as she kisses her lover.

Although, it's a very sad song. For some reason I always feel like she dies at the end, even though the song doesn't say that specifically.

Jewel-

"your hands are in my hair, but my heart is in your teeth baby now and it makes me want make you near me always"

the hands in the hair (not necessarily pulling) but the slide up your face and hands up into hair gesture is something I strongly associate with affection and love

plus, nothing beats someone playing with my hair...love, love, love

From my brand-new favourite song!
Hair - Lady Gaga
http://www.youtube.com/v/Okq8xHrIZ8I?fs=1&hl=en_US

Lyrics
Whenever I’m dressed cool,
My parents put up a fight.
And if I’m a hot shot,
Mom will cut my hair at night.
And in the morning,
I’m short of my identity.
I scream Mom and Dad,
Why can’t I be who I wanna be?

I just wanna be myself,
And I want you to love me for who I am.
I just wanna be myself,
And I want you to know, I am my hair.

I’ve had enough, this is my prayer,
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair.
I’ve had enough, this is my prayer,
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair.
I’ve had enough, I’m not a freak,
I’ll just keep fighting to stay cool on the streets
I’ve had enough, enough, enough,
And this is my prayer, I swear,
I’m as free as my hair.
I’m as free as my hair.
I am my hair.
I am my hair.

As free as my hair, hair, hair,
Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair,
Hair, hair, hair,
Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair.
As free as my hair, hair, hair,
Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair
Hair, hair, hair,
Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair.

Sometimes I waltz around,
Put on red highlights.
Just because I want my friends,
To think I’m dynamite.
And on Friday,
Roxy, High school dance.
I got my bangs to hide,
That I don’t stand a chance.

I just wanna be myself,
And I want you to love me for who I am.
I just wanna be myself,
And I want you to know, I am my hair.

I’ve had enough, this is my prayer,
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair.

As free as my hair, hair, hair,
Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair
Hair, hair, hair,
Hair, hair, ha-ha-ha-hair.
Ha-ha-ha-hair.

I just want to be free, I just want to be me
And I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties.
I don’t wanna change, and I don’t wanna be ashamed.
I’m the spirit of my Hair, it’s all the glory that I bare.

I am my hair, I am my hair
I’m my hair, I am my hair
I am my hair, I am my hair
I am my hair, I am my hair
(It’s all the glory that I bare)

I am my hair, I am my hair
It’s all the glory that I bare
I am my hair, I am my hair
I’m my hair, yeah, yeah

"The Highwayman" as sung by Loreena McKennit.

"Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark innyard,
And he tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred;
He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord's black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord's daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair."

(A little further on in the same song)

"He rose upright in the stirrups; he scarce could reach her hand
But she loosened her hair i' the casement! His face burnt like a brand
As the black cascade of perfume came tumbling over his breast;
And he kissed its waves in the moonlight,
(Oh, sweet black waves in the moonlight!)
Then he tugged at his rein in the moonlight, and galloped away to the west."

Original poem by Alfred Noyes :)

And this is my prayer, I swear,
I’m as free as my hair.
I’m as free as my hair.
I am my hair.
I am my hair.

Ooh, my hair, my hair.

Doesn't it just make you wanna let down your hair and dance around? :D

It totally does! Preferably while flinging my hair about dramatically, as in my avatar pic! (^(oo)^)

"The Highwayman" as sung by Loreena McKennit.

"Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark innyard,
And he tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred;

As the black cascade of perfume came tumbling over his breast;
And he kissed its waves in the moonlight,
(Oh, sweet black waves in the moonlight!)
Then he tugged at his rein in the moonlight, and galloped away to the west."

Original poem by Alfred Noyes :)

I totally used to have this poem memorized...I don't think I remember all of it anymore. But I do love her version of it.

Gun and Roses "Sweet Child of Mine"

Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by
This was the first one that occurred to me too. I love that song.

Enjoying the Gaga hair song too.

My favorite part of 'Going to California' by Led Zeppelin
"Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair"

That reminds me of Scott McKenzie's "San Francisco":

If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

I wonder if they are referring to the same girl. :)

I love love love that part of the song...it always makes me imagine a girl with long, flowing, wavy hair that's very shiny, filled with soft petals and budding flowers, laying in a green field...

I love the "Highwayman", I was listening to it just a couple of days ago and thought the part with the hair was beautiful :).

Another song that comes to mind is "Cascading" by the beautiful Noa:

"Cascading
Tumbling, tumbling
Falling, falling

Cascading
Tumbling, tumbling
Falling, falling

Hair
On my shoulders bare
It's there
To extend the soul
It's long
To cage it would be wrong
Like my Mother's song
Gently unfolds"
