First of all, let me say

http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/terryandjody/More%20More%20Smilies/securedownloadCA0W8F3V.gif

to everyone for all the comments and visitor messages
saying that you enjoy my different threads and pictures. You all are too kind!

Here is something new I've just learned
and couldn't wait to share with all my friends here on the LHC!

I have seen pictures of this braid before, but never imagined I'd be able to do it. Well, last night I discovered a "how-to" on Adopt-a-Do's Facebook page so I tried it out. This braid is amazing!
It looks kind of like a chain, hence my name for it~

Here are a few pictures:

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x472/andrearcolson/My%20different%20hairstyles%20album%202/chainbraid1.jpg

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x472/andrearcolson/My%20different%20hairstyles%20album%202/chainbraid2.jpg

http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x472/andrearcolson/My%20different%20hairstyles%20album%202/chainbraid3.jpg

This looks so complicated, but it is the easiest thing when you know the secret! I'll try to explain:

Make a regular 3-strand English braid. It should be not-too-loose and not-too-tight, just kind of medium. When you reach the tail end, hold the center strand with two fingers, then with your other hand, push the right-most strand and the left-most strand up to your hairline. You can then slowly pull them back down the center piece until the "links" in your "chain" are evenly spaced the way you like them. Tie off the end with an elastic band, and you're all set!
I hope this makes sense!

Wow... my hair isn't even close enough so beautiful as yours, arc691 and the "chain braid" is amazing. I want to try this, but I don't comprehend totally how to pull the strands (or which ones) to make them look like a chain like you do. I want to learn this. :) When I try it just gets messy. I feel like I don't get it right, and don't understand fully.. I wish there was a video for this, as it would be easier for me to watch and learn.

:agape: I think my jaw hit my knees when I saw this style. It's beyond stunning. It looks complicated, but when I read the secret, it doesn't seem too bad. (Though I don't know how long it will take for my braids to even have the hopes of looking like yours! :o)

Yeah!!! I can do an English braid! Finally a style I can do. I am sooooo stoked!

I got stung on the hand yesterday when I was working a friend's bees so I will have to wait until I can make a fist again but YEAH!!!

I looked at the youtube video that shows this that Loreley posted. (Thanks for that, it was nice to see the actual thing in motion) and the lady that did the video is in a contest on youtube right now. Kind of cool. I voted for her, her kids are adorable.

4 days left to vote.

I don't know her but I did subscribe to her videos. Thanks, Loreley, for the link.

How beautiful! There's a similar variation of your braid that also looks pretty cool. Basically you start an English braid but one of the strands is significantly skinnier than the other two. Braid normally and it gives a really cool ripple/chain effect. I wish I could find the link, it was mentioned on this site a while ago.

Here is my version of the chain braid bun. It took me about 20 minutes to do the whole thing. I swear, the chain braid is my new favourite braid. Its a shame it eats up so much hair though--to get real length for anything more than accent my hair would have to be past my ankles!

gorgeous hair I love the style!
Just wondering, my hair gets really tangled when I braid
do you use anything to keep your hair from tangling?
Yours is so long I couldn't imagine braiding it when its that long
and not tearing the crap out of the ends I love braided style!
But oh so much damage I want to know your secret lol!!

Just wow! I don't think I could do that on myself, but when my litle cousin sees that photo she will be demanding I try it on her.
And my sister will give me the lokk that says "you showed her the photo..."

Oh my GOODNESS, that is AMAZING. AMAZING! AND I understand your instructions, AND one of the only hairstyles I can make with my clumsy hands is a standard 3 strand braid, so I think it's not inconceivable that I might be able to accomplish this, albeit in far less grand fashion. ;)

So cool. Thank you as always for sharing!

It looks really beautiful.
But I wouldn't do it too often with the sliding up part, I'd be afraid it would damage my hair.

There's another way to create this type of look.
Englishbraid with two thinner strands and one normal one...or two normal strands and one thin one.
Doesn't look exactly the same but might be better for the hair ;-)

SurprisingWoman
May 15th, 2011, 08:48 PM
I did a quickie of this before my wash and shampoo today.

I agree with eresh, the sliding part will keep this from being a regular style but it was fun and the best part is....

I CAN DO IT! I can't do anything but an English so this is great. The thinner/thicker braids are nice but not the same.

There are pics in my album. It isn't fancy and I didn't do an updo or anything but I could do it! I will play with this in the future.

Good stuff.

Thanks soooo much arc691!! You are awesome!

I love that you are able to photograph your hair outside with such a beautiful background! So lovely!

And wow, amazing that you got that chain braid to look so neat :) I can imagine it must be quite hard to tighten a braid like that without causing too much frizz.
