I love necklaces but stopped wearing them because they would always tangle and get caught on my nape hairs. I eventually had a big section pulled out! Any suggestions on how to wear necklaces without ripping out my hair?

Do a secure up-do.

Use satin ribbons instead of jewelry chains.

The clasps tangle even with my hair up. I have just enough baby hairs that no matter how I wear my hair, they get pulled. I do have a few necklaces that are on cords or ribbons and I find the knots can get tangled up too.

I am swapping out a lot of clasps for ones that are sleeker and have less to catch on my hair. This (http://www.firemountaingems.com/details.asp?PN=H206689FD) type seems to grab less hair than this, (http://www.firemountaingems.com/details.asp?PN=H202078FN) for instance. This (http://www.firemountaingems.com/details.asp?PN=H203373FN) is the worst kind for my hair and I have replaced all of them.

I've heard of people getting thin plastic tubing (like for a fishtank) in a size that will slide over the clasp of their necklaces, the push this over after putting the necklace on. Haven't tried it myself though.

I'll second the ribbons idea.

I always thought that losing my baby nape hairs in my necklace clasp was a fact of life....

The plastic tubing idea sounds intriguing, I shall try it! thankyou~!

I replace all the clasps on my necklaces with either hook & eye clasps or toggle clasps. They still catch my nape hair sometimes, but it's really easy to get them unhooked from my hair.

I have a necklace that I wear every day where I had the jeweler replace the original round spring ring with the rectangle-ish lobster claw clasp almost exactly like what ravenreed shows. It still gets tangled it but it is MUCH better than the round kind.

My favourite necklace always pulls out nape hair, although it has a lobster clasp - the hairs get caught in the chain as well and that's when it gets really bad (doesn't always happen). I just live with it, but if you have any suggestions apart from satin ribbons, I'd be glad.

There is a huge selection of different clasps on Etsy and eBay and they can be super cheap as many suppliers are selling right from China.

Some chain types are a lot worse than others. I don't know about all of them, but some of those fat "snake" chains are awesome at pinching hairs between the links.
