When I was 10 years old I dug a small hole into the top of my head by tweezing hairs out until it bled. I would then slick my hair back into a bun to cover the mess I created. When the hairs started growing back, it looked like a cactus in that one area. I was so embarressed! Little did I know, I had trichotillomania. If you, or someone you know has this awful compulsion, seek help. It's a coping mechanism and/or a symptom of anxiety/stress. Atleast for me it was. Nobody should have to suffer this awful disease & we need to bring more awareness to this subject. It could be a sign that this person is suffering in other parts of their life, as I was. Reach out & educate!

There is a support thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=4854&highlight=trichotillomania) on LHC. :)

Oh my, you learn something new every day. I am so sorry, never knew this existed but if anyone suffers from this, I wish them the best of luck!
