today hair met scissors and they decided to be friends again after a long period of not speaking to each other.
(read: my tailbone-length hair is NO MORE!)
i don't know if this happens to any of you, but every so often i get this sneaking little worm of a thought to 'just cut it,' and while i usually brush it off after a quick moment in front of the mirror, this time--a few weeks ago--it just wouldn't quit. so i started looking at photos of how would cut my hair eventually. i saved them. i stared at them. and the itch got worse.
i realize the following are all lame excuses, but to be fair, i do have two very young children, i live in HOT florida, i have no time to myself (to care for or enjoy crazylong hair), and honestly i was just tired of dealing with it. i dreaded wash day. i hated combing it out. i resented having to continue to henna in order to prevent root ugliness. plus i'm turning 30 this year, and i'm ready for change.
and you know what? i LOVE it! no regrets, though i do feel a little bit of bittersweet nostalgia. it's been short like this before, so i knew what to expect, but i forgot just how freaking awesome it is not having to do anything to it. it's so light and fluffy and fun, and i look forward to getting it cut in different ways when i need a trim.
it was absolutely lovely to have long, beautiful hair when i was enjoying it... it really was. but i stopped loving it, and it was time for it to go. farewell, long hair. i'll miss you... sometimes.

ps--fyi, i am not leaving LHC; this place is fantastic and i have learned so much from the collective wisdom and beauty of you all and would not give that up... i'm just not a "longhair" anymore, at least technically. i will always have long hair in spirit...
