One year ago today I joined LHC. I had gotten a big trim a couple of weeks before, which, combined with other trims over about a four month period, all to get rid of senseless damage, left my hair at APL. My hair hadn't been that short since junior high...half my life ago! I was quite devastated, but I had brought it upon myself from complete disregard for my hair health. While painful, it was at least a wake-up call to the need for good hair care. I'd always wanted at least hip length hair, but it would never grow past waist before I had to trim the dry, velcroey ends off (what I now suspect was product and protein build-up along with a severe lack of moisture). Before, I had no concept that anything could be done to keep ends nice and healthy; I thought "dead" ends was just how it was, and you had to have trims eventually. Today, I've only had one trim in twelve months, and that only because I'm still removing heat damaged ends, slowly but surely.
I was so upset when I joined LHC that I couldn't bring myself to take a length shot until two months later, but you can still see ten months of progress in these pictures...June 2010 (about an inch of growth from my starting point) vs. now (waist!).

My progress has been bittersweet. While I made it from long-APL to waist (speedy because I have a very short torso), I've spent most of my adult life in this mid-back range, so in a way it feels like I haven't accomplished anything. But in reality I gained a solid six inches (losing ~1.5 in to a trim), plus my hair is in the best condition ever. Best of all, my life-long ambitions of hip and beyond are actually tangible now! And I definitely couldn't have done it without the help and information of LHC, so I have to thank you all for your great support!
