Hi all, I thought this would be a helpful place where the new, frustrated, and in-need-of-a-change could come and have a "haircare routine" suggested to them, particularly if they (like me) don't know what products work well or not together. I'll start :D
Current Routine: Wooden comb and BBB, CWC once a week with SLES and cones, commercial leave-in, castor oil on scalp before washing Just started putting cinnamon in my last 'C'. Schwarzkopf "luminance" in, er, the pinkish-red shade (there's only a few). My hair is this colour:

Hope that worked! Sorry it's a bit personal - it's the only photo I have.
Goals for routine: I want to maintain my colour (it doesn't fade much, it's just some nice things I tried that were otherwise brilliant made it darker) and maybe lighten/brighten a touch? And thicken my hair - it's thinned a bit, perhaps due to colour, perhaps illness, stress, or hormones.
Things that worked: My hair's pretty easy and likes everything I've tried so far (CWC, castor oil for growth and thickness, Coconut oil/Shea butter mix for length oiling) Although my scalp is/was greasy, I found that rich conditioners/gentle shampoos were best because they didn't strip my hair. I've managed to stretch washes to once a week, yay!
Things that didn't work/current problems: Castor oil is hard to wash out! I've tried leaving on conditioner for ages to dissolve it, but it's a stubborn bugger! the Coconut oil/shea butter mix also made my colour darker... (I think the castor oil might have as well.
Things I might try Manic panic dye instead of the permanent peroxide-y stuff (I'm worried about hair loss, and I won't worry about damage if I reapply manic panic lots. I've heard it can go BRIGHT if you just let it sit on for ages, and my hair's only light-medium ash brown to start with.
Thinking about going SLS-free in case that helps with shedding, and obviously cone-free cause of the lack of SLS. My scalp is oily but seems to respond better to things which are gentle and moisturising! I think it was only oily because of overproduction due to stripping anyway. Specifically poo bars maybe. I'd also like a leave-in that won't take away my colour, if that's possible? Or maybe I should stick to SLS so I can use a coney leave-in...Ack!
I guess my most pressing question, too, would be: do you think my peroxide hair dye was causing hair loss? I seem to shed a terrible amount when rinsing out the dye anyway, much more than a normal wash (about 3x) Help please, LHC!:cheese:
