I was looking through the articles, and found a recipe for a rhassoul clay hair wash. And I have a question. :p

Does is have to be rhassoul clay? I have a container of bentonite clay under my sink that I just bought, and have yet to use. Would that be ok to use on hair? And if I can use the bentonite, is there a certain way to use it, or can I use it the same way as in that recipe and just switch out the clay?

I tried white clay (kaolin), but it didn't work for me, probably because it wasn't grainy enough.

I tried green clay (but I don't know if it was bentonite clay) and it didn't wash-out much colour and also left my hair feeling like some kind of weird rubber! shudder::justy:

I've tried white kaolin and it also didn't clean well for me. I use ghassoul about once every 4 days to a week. I make a paste by mixing about a tablespoon in just enough water to make it like a smooth mud and I apply to my scalp and roots only (dry or wet, doesn't really matter for my hair). I let it sit for between 5 and ten minutes depending on how clean I want it to be, and let my body relax in the steam. Then I carefully rinse it out and massage my scalp a little. When i follow it with a diluted rinse (in my case white vinegar/nettle/rosemary), and I let it air dry or damp-bun it, My hair seriously looks like I washed it with some high end salon products.

If you hair is fine though (like mine) PLEASE be very gentle, as it has been said to cause some damage if you rub it around. I personally might take a break from ghassoul and try indian herbs out of curiosity, but at least I know I can always come back to something natural that works.

Good luck!

I really like bentonite clay for my hair washing. I pour an inch into the bottom of a cup, fill the cup with water, and let it sit covered in the fridge for at least 8 hours. Then I stir in some honey and glycerin. I apply to my hair, let sit covered with a shower cap for 20 minutes, then rinse it out. The honey and glycerin give more moisture while helping to make the application and rinse out easier.

Bentonite works. In fact, there's a company that sells nice Bentonite clay shampoo - google Terressentials. I've got some, and I like it fine. I don't think my hair shines quite as much after I use it (compared to the superfatted Henna Sooq shampoo bars I'm using) but I think it makes a nice thing to use once every week or two. I've just been planning to make some once my bottle is used up - it's quite expensive and easily homemade.

I have super-sensitive, oily, acne-prone skin and bentonite clay is the only wash method I've found so far that is good both for my hair and skin. Regular shampoos/conditioners irritate my skin on my face and scalp.

I use bentonite all the time. I also have a rhassoul based clay powder with herbs but it is more messy (is that possible?) because it is more of a reddish color.

I either mix into a paste (either one) and focus on getting it onto my roots and then my length and just wash it out with water and follow with a vinegar rinse.

When I use bentonite I usually add some sea salt.

Both of these I usually use to remove build up because they leave my hair staticky and i don't like the static really so haven't used them long term as my only wash - but I do use them regularly.

I use green clay mixed with water as a hair mask. My scalp feels really clean and hair softer afterwards. But I have to use shampoo after, otherwise my hair feels and looks horrible.

I love rhassoul clay wash. I mix it with aloe vera leaf. This is an excellent shampoo.
I don't use cemmeercial shampoo now.
I only use rhassoul, Bentonite, and yucca root to make my shampoo. I have been doing this for 3 month and my hair and I just love it.

I forgot to add that I've been using the bentonite to wash, then a ACV rinse, and then using aloe vera gel all over my hair and then rinsing it out. This works great for my hair!
