Pretty vintage hairstyle, anyone know how I'd do it?

Here's an image from the Vintage Ads community on livejournal, I love her hair...can anyone guess how to do it? I'm intrigued and want to figure out if I could do it/get DBF to do it for me? Would be nice for a wedding or something equally formal.

I have no idea, but I adore the makeup. I don't believe that style is attainable without extensions or floor-length, insanely thick hair without any taper, but it is very beautiful.

*Edit, Actually, it looks more like pinned-up curls, not a braided bun. I'm fairly certain that if you made a high ponytail, curled it, and then pinned little bits of it all around it would create this style.

That ad sure makes me want to buy that lipstick! The hair is amazing but is likely a clip in peice. I think it would be very difficult to do but definatly possible with enough product. It looks like it is a high ponytail that was sectioned then sprayed with hardening hairspray while being curled aroud a large barrel curling iron. It was probobly pinned down as well to keep it in place. It might be tough to do on yourself but might be a good style to ask a stylist for if you're going to a formal event.

I had my hair done this way for a high school prom in 1970! My hair was waist length or longer at the time. After a hairwash, the stylist set my hair on large rollers and put me under a hood dryer. Then she combed it all out, made a ponytail, and formed the large curls using lots of hair spray and pins. I don't recall much about that prom, but I will never forget how my hairpins fell out in my brother's car as he drove me home from the hairdresser. He had a hot rod with stiff suspension and as we bumped along, every pin slipped out with a metallic ding against the metal parts of the car interior. No worries, though, because the hairspray held everything.

I once had a hairdresser do my hair like something similar to the hair in the photo. What she did was put my hair into two pony tails, one on the top of my hair toward the back and the other about halfway down the back of my head. She then gathered sections from the pony tails and spiral curled them. With the completion of each lock, she laid it down loosely on my head and secured each downward rotation of the lock with a pin. That is, the side of the curls that met my head, she secured with a pin. Then, of course, she set it all with hairspray when she was done. I hope my description makes sense.

Yup My mom was a hairdresser and used to do this type of style on older ladies because it was behind the times when I was a kid. They used those huge orange juice can size rollers and hood dryers, along with 128744749209 pins, and industrial strength ozone depleting hairspray.
