I am currently BSL and am trying to get to waist by Christmas. (I had my sister measure it for me and I have 4 inches to go.) Is this feasible? Will scalp massage make it grow any faster?

Average is 0.5 inches/month. This varies slightly but is by far what most people have. At that rate you are looking at 8 months of continuous growth with no trimming or stalls. At this rate, you'll be down 3 inches by December. So close, but not quite unless you have a faster growth than average. :)

You should have about 2.5 inches grown out by Dec. if you get the normal .05 inches a month. Good luck.

Mind you, the replies above are for normal growth rate... Some people naturally grow faster or slower than this.
You can maximize your growth rate by making sure you have adequate nutrition, rest, exercise, and water (which you should probably do anyway without regard for your hair). Take a multivitamin unless you have a good reason not to, and massage your scalp daily to improve bloodflow. Take care of your hair, especially the ends, so you don't lose what you gain to breakage.
If you feel like doing something a little more strange than the standard advice, there are a number of people who have increased their growth rate by applying miconazole (the active ingredient in antifungals like Monistat) to their scalps. Note that a few people got seriously increased shedding by doing this; if that happens, stop using it. Link to Monistat thread. (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=156)

Average I've always heard is half an inch a month, but it is true that hair does grow differently for everybody. My hair grows about an inch a month and I've always had fast growing hair.

Thanks everyone! I guess I'll just have to be patient.

It says you're 17...I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but it seems like a lot of the younger members on this site get faster than average growth. That's a sweeping generalisation, but feel free to think of it in times of desperation :)
