Do any of you ever get little grains of what looks/feels like sand on your scalp (having not recently visited a beach :p)? What are they? I get more of them a day or two after washing.

I get them! When my hair is super greasy, which happens to me fast after washing. Only one or two though and they really do feel like grains of sand. But there's only a couple so it doesn't concern me at all. I'd think it would be dead skin cells from the scalp?

Hmm, I have never gotten those. I wonder if it has anything to do with our hair care routines ??
I am a frequent oil user and I use SLS sparingly.

I think they're sebum and dead skin cells that get build up in our pores and form those little balls. I get those on my shoulders too, so I think that's it. It could also be from product/silicone too (I'm guessing my shoulders get whatever treatment my hair gets since whatever I wash from my hair gets onto my shoulders in the shower).

I second the sebum thing, I get them, they are small and rough, but soft, like wax, if I examine them.

If I remember correctly I read a discussion some time ago here on LHC, saying that there are different type of scalps and sebum. Some people have oily sebum that spreads on the hair shafts, others have "solid" one that solidifies on the scalp in little grains, and this may be what happens to you, especially if you notice it only some days after washing.
