I apologize if this is a duplicate kind of thread....I know there are threads out there on this topic, but I never seem to have any luck with the search function.

That being said:

I've just joined a gym, and there is an indoor pool. I *love* to swim, and would like to incorporate two swim days into my workout schedule. I would do my twice weekly CWC on those days post-swimming.

I'm looking for tips on how other longhair swimmers protect their hair in heavily chlorinated water.

What I'm doing so far:

Braid hair, slick with conditioner, fold braid up, put on Lycra swimcap (I tried a silicon one, I couldn't get it to fit over my hair, and my hair got wet anyway - the Lycra just secures it and I'm hoping helps keep the conditioner on my hair). Swim, CWC.

Is there anything else I can do? What are other people doing?

TIA :blossom:

I'd also wet with tap water.

Maybe look into and see how your feel about swimmer's shampoo. :)

I am having this problem too. I just ordered a Speedo silicone cap especially FOR long hair. I could not find one locally. I'll see how it works. Someone told me to wear that AND a bubble cap over it. I will if this one doesn't work well. Right now I just braid and thoroughly wet my hair with regular water and put conditioner in it. Then I put a headband on to keep my growing out bangs out of my eyes. I can't wait to get my swim cap though. I don't like the way my hair feels right now after I swim. I just feel it's not very good for it.

I wet my hair, condition, oil and THEN put my cap on. I try to swim on the days that I need to wash my hair anyway, but if not after I'm done swimming I rinse my hair and then deep condittion.

I have clarified chlorine from my hair with tomato juice before. It smells, but it clarifies hair pretty well. I am not sure why.
