I have a real old exercise video: The FIRM Vol. 1 with Susan Harris. I have ALWAYS admired her long braid ever since I got the workout back ages ago & wondered how she did it.
Do you think that she braided her hair bending over? or with a topsy tail?

Does anyone out there have this video & what do you think?

The Firm Volume 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnyKbqEqFpU)is this it? If you fast forward to 2minute 48 seconds, you can catch a glimpse of the braid from the mirror behind her. If this is the video you mean, that is a Dutch braid or an inverted French, inside out French, it is known by any of these names :flower:

FWIW, I did look at some of her other videos and she has different styles, so if this isn't the one, link the one that is and we'll see if we can figure it out :flower:

To answer your original question, this braid was not done w/a topsy tail and it most likely wasn't done w/being bent forward.

No, sorry that is not the one that I was thinking of. That is Firm Vol. 4 "Time Crunch"

The one that I was thinking of is Firm Vol. 1 Body Sculpting Basics with Susan Harris she has on a yellow outfit in this one.

Thank you for linking the right video. I think you were right, it is a loose topsy tail English braid :D

It could be this one. Torrin did a video of it for me.

I actually think it looks more like a Dianyla braid (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=23652).

ETA: Tapioca's dianyla braid (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=34868) is thicker and tighter, but has that same sorta starting underneath look to it.

ETA2: Dianyla's little paint images aren't showing up in the directions, basically the idea is to split your hair into equal thirds based on your scalp, like cutting a pie into thirds.

The Dianyla braid is very similar to the one in Torrin's tutorial, with the difference being that for Dianyla's version you have to do some fancy, accurate parting. For my version, you don't. Also you don't have to wear the hair swept back. You can keep your centre parting.

I haven't thought about those old firm workouts in forever--and I've got them hidden around here somewhere. Time to dig them out because they sure do work. Thank you for the reminder!

I think we crossposted :)
And accurate parting is really necessary for a dianyla braid (trust me, I've tried!).
