Ok, I do pony tails alot, and I always see girls with cute ones, where they bump the top part of their hair with bobby pins either on top or in the back at the middle and then pony tail it.
Is there a trick to this ?? for the life of me I cant do it !

Any ways to make the basic pony cute and sophisticated ? I also like wrapping the pony in a piece of your own hair but cant do it.

Any tips ?

Maybe this might help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Oi2iIvQgw

This is a tutorial from another member of this site :). Its not a complete ponytail, but maybe it could still help?

I am not sure if cuting a ponytail means a specific thing, however I like using very cute bows with lots of black ribbons and lace at times, I think that make my ponytail cute.

I agree! You can add colours too, like colours that don't match your hair colour to make the decoration look more striking!

What you can do to create volume on the top of your head is gather your crown hair like you're going to make a half-up, twist it so that the hair is in one strand, then push the twist forward so that your hair floofs up. Pin in place, and it's done. :)

Hope that's comprehensible.

I've also watched tutorials where the hair elastic is covered with a strand from the ponytail -- I think the key to get it to stay is criss-crossing the bobby pins on the bottom of your ponytail to secure the end and keep it from unraveling.

Yes you can! Take a thin strand of hair from the bottom of the pony and wrap it over the elastic. Tuck the end into your ponytail holder. You may use pre-inserted ribbon or yarn for this, a crochet hook or a specialized tool.

I'm a ponytail girl! I don't like buns very much so when I want my hair out of my way I have a ponytail. I like having it high up on my head, think cheerleader. And also I sometimes curl the ends (with a curler or my fingers) so it looks bouncy and flirty, not just straight as my hair would normally do. For the floofy part, I just pull the hair out of the tie a bit. :D

I bought something like this at my local dollar store for $2. They only had black which is not anything near my natural colour and I haven't had the nerve to wear it out yet. I might get it back out and try again.

I just tried it the Bumpit thing and my head looks a bit weird. From looking at my photos I'm getting used to the look and I think it's ok. I would have to play around a little more and find something that is more "go to" but I think I could go out in public like this and not look too much like I have a mishapen head.

Definitely there is allot you can do with bows.

julliams, did you use it without teasing the hair? Does it feel secure? According to the instructions you're supposed to tease your hair before folding it over the bumpit, but I don't think I could bring myself to do that!

Nah - just stuck the comb in there and lay my hair over the top. Then I twisted it just like I would normally do a pouf when I use bobby pins and then just caught it in a ponytail. It was really easy. It's a shame mine is black because it will at some point show through. But hey - it's something I don't think I'm going to use all that often.

But no teasing for me - ever!! I do have very thick hair though so it does cover really well. I would think that if you had less hair or finer hair, it might be more difficult and then I could see that teasing might be necessary.

Oh, and it feels totally secure. It feels exactly like a comb in your hair only it's not going to slide out because the hair is over the top. Maybe if you didn't do a ponytail there might be some danger of it slipping or falling out, but this isn't going anywhere. Maybe the hairs would lay over one way or the other and expose the Bumpit but as I said, I have alot of hair.

Well, they were really cheap on Ebay, so I ended up ordering one. Can't hurt to try! I would love some more volume since my hair has a tendency to go flat - I like wearing ponytails and this seems like a nice way to pretty it up. If my fine hair doesn't co-operate, hey, it's only five dollars down the drain.

Oh ok, I might take a look and see if I can get one in a lighter colour and maybe a smaller one for right at the front. I used to just use bobby pins but this does make it more uniform. It's not something you would want to take your hair down in front of anyone else though - like having a hair-rat only it's a little more conventional.

Hey I just noticed something - my thing is NOT a bumpit. The bumpit doesn't have a comb as the base. Mine looks like a hair comb with the dome over the top of it. I took a pic:

I took a look at the actual bumpit pictured and I guess it could feel secure but this one with the comb really sits in there and isn't coming out.

This is more like what I have but still not as much comb. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-CELE-UP-Hair-Bump-Up-Hair-Volumizing-Inserts-DIY-/170626565294?pt=AU_Hair_Care&hash=item27ba22c4ae

Julliams no disrespect intended but that hair tool in your picture look like a torture instrument. :O
