View Full Version : New updo?

Tonight I was planning to do a braided bun, using two braids, that I saw here: http://www.network54.com/Forum/242462/thread/1088545263/July+Style+of+the+Month-+The+Braided+Bun, but decided to do something else with it after the "braid both tails" step.

I took a tail and made a flat loop with it, where the top of the braided tail (closest to the pony holder) went over the lower part, probably a bit past the halfway point, pinned and let the ends dangle for a minute while I did the same to the other side.

I imagine you could let them continue to dangle, possibly using fancy elastics, ribbons or beaded/feathered leather thongs, but I didn't have anything like that around, so I crossed them over the dividing line between the two tails, pierced each tail with one side of a good day-type pin and pushed it down between the scalp and pony holder.

I'm going to attempt to get pics of the finished style, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get any accurate ones with the webcam.

Did I invent a new style? Can anyone understand my directions? I think I'm hopeless at them sometimes.

Edit: So, them's the pics. Sorry for the weird sizing and stuff, but as you can see, my webcam is built in, so, my face (edited out) is in the foreground and the actual style (left in) is smaller because it was in the background.

Umm.. huh?

I really need pics here  I am not getting it, starting as of the ponytail part. Up to there I get it, but then.. ummm.. *blank*

Maybe the pics I just added will help, though they're just of the finished product/weirdly sized.

Then again, I really am terrible at directions, so the pics might not help at all :\ I'm going to use paint later, to see if I can illustrate it.

Nice pics, but yeah.. doesn't help me much *giggles*

Hopefully the paint instructions will work better :)

I'm a bit confused too. But it can be hard to post directions to something, my first attempt at it wasn't really clear either :)

It does look like a pretty style, so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I'm still fighting with paint. I may just draw what I did and take a picture of the drawing.

Ok, I did really...erm, crappy paint pictures to attempt to explain this updo, I really doubt they're going to help, with the embarrasingly poor quality of the pictures. However, I did try.

Purple staple-like design indicates pins, in 3 the rather...millipede-like things the ponytail turned into are braids.

I get it now! Success! I will try this first thing tomorrow and I'll let you know how it went.

I'm amazed and delighted those pictures made sense to you!

 They were very helpful next to the instructions. It's a bit like make a flat bow-shape with braids and tucking the ends, right?

Yes, exactly like that. You can do a number of things with the ends, either tucking them under or crossing them over the center in an x shape and pinning them to the top of the ponytail, with the braid tassles hidden wherever you can find to hide them.

Yay, I really figured it out :cheese: I was afraid you were going to say 'Erm... no, that's not what I meant at all' :D

You're a genius to have figured it out from those pictures. I foresee doing it this way when I have longer hair: taking the bow loops, twisting them once and beginning the pinning right behind the ears, so there'd be an ear to ear braided twist-y thing that hangs out at the nape. I think it would look semi-period for a few different eras.

Oooo, that sounds pretty! *writes this down so she'll remember to try it too*

Awesome! Totally makes sense! Yay for paint pictures!

As promised, I tried this style this morning. The first time I made my loops too big and the ends were too short to hide. The second try looked good, but the braids were frizzy because I didn't redo them. So I tried it a third time with 'new' braids and it's perfect :D Very secure and pretty style.

I will post a pic later, I left the camera upstairs.

And now, the big question: what do you want to call it, Nevermore?

Your paint pictures are good. I will be able to try from your instructions. Have saved them.
Cheers

Sounds cool. I'll have to try it. What are you calling it?

Here's the pic. Ignore the fly-aways, the pins and the whitish shine the camera gave me

Isilya: Yours came out so much better than mine! Yours is amazing O.O

WritingPrincess: I hadn't even thought that far. I assumed that I'd done a known style that was unknown to me. I guess I'll have to think about that now, huh?

I'm glad my paint pictures made sense to everyone! If anyone wants to suggest names, that'd be great.

Wow, Isilya, that's beautiful! I have to try this. :)

Nevermore, how about the braided bow, or maybe the double braided bow? Or is that too obvious?

Awwww, thanks! :o

I like 'braided bow' :) I think it will help people understand the instructions even better if they know it has to look like a bow before they start pinning the ends.

Ditto to that. It's a nice name and does start people off on the right foot when going to understand the directions. It's quite a lovely style!

Braided bow it is! Thanks everyone!
