I wash my hair once a week and put a mix of castor, jojoba, triple moon, and camellia oil in my hair after I wash. I also put the panacea in before I oil, it seems to work well, I think in the past two weeks my hair has grown 2 inches!!!! 31 inches now yeah!!!! So has anyone else been doing this? What are your results?

Do you mean you put it on your scalp or do you really mean you put it in your hair? Thanks

Congrats! I apply castor oil on my scalp even after a wash, but in the scalp that is hidden by the rest of my hair. So none on the crown. I do leave the oil on for days and on the weekends I drench my scalp and leave it on for a very long time. It works.

I've been using JBCO after every wash and a couple of times a week in between washes (just a bit on my hands for head massages) and my hair has grown more than I thought as well. It's grown 1 inch in 3 weeks. It's taken my awhile to figure out the right amount of oil and in the beginning my hair was always greasy and gross. Now it's better but I do keep my hair up or in braids most of the time so any oiliness is not as noticeable as when leaving my hair down. I also put a mix of JBCO/coconut oil on my length and ends because it makes my hair so shiny! Coconut oil by itself doesn't do that for me.
Although, I have to admit I've launched a full on assault when it comes to may hair regime: I'm also taking the Nioxin Recharching Complex vitamins, Biosil as well as the fish oil/butter oil mix I've been taking all along. Added to that, massage my scalp most nights but nothing too intense- just two or three minutes before bed. Not just for my hair, it also feels nice and relaxing.

Now i find this very interesting as i have no problem applying castor oil but i find having to CO out the next day very tedious, i was doing this as i read here i think that you shouldn't leave oil on your scalp for more than 24 hours as it can clog and upset your scalp......now this appears this isn't the case
I an actually having trouble putting my hair up as using castor oil has made it so thick i have trouble braiding it :cheer:

Not only is it okay for me to leave it on all the time, my scalp loves it! When I first started washing my hair just once a week, my scalp was alternately itchy/dry and then oily with (sorry tmi) some cruddy oily white dandruff-like stuff that I hadn't experienced before.
Now, even though I only wash once a week (and CO or baking soda at that!) my scalp is very happy. Before I had that weird dandruff thing going on, my scalp had been itchy for months and I couldn't figure out why. No more itchies for me :p

Hi girls, great job w/ your hair as it sounds like many of you are having serious success. I, on the other hand am having a different problem. I was diagnosed with female pattern hair loss. Bassically I am getting very thin throughout the top, especially from behind the hairline back to the crown. I used Rogaine as per my Derms suggestion, and it worked, however my face kept getting bloated so had to come off it. I ahd all the blood work done and everything appears normal. I ust think it's genetic and I need to find something else to help combat this thing! So, after reading all these posts my head is spinning. I see some people are getting longer hair and even some get regrowth from castor oil and onion juice. I also see some people saying trhe castor oil made them lose more hair. Like I said, my head is spinning. Can anyone help as im sure at least someone out there has a similiar issue and something has got to be working a little?? Thanks so much:)!!

Tonight will only be my 2nd castor oiling, so I can't say anything about progress. I have been reading everything I've found on here about castor oil though & I think people are losing some more hair are due to massaging the oil well in to their hair (others have said any oil-heavy massage can make more hair come out) or perhaps because of the other oil they are thinning the castor oil with. I haven't read anything negative yet about castor oil, except having difficulty getting it out. Like I said, I haven't used it much, just what I've read on here, someone else will probably be able to respond better.. :)

Hi. What do you guys find best to use to apply an oil to the scalp? An applicator bottle?
Kalie, i have the same problem as you. For years i thought that it was down to having PCOS but i found out that i was anemic when i went to donate blood so now i'm not sure. My GP gave me a topical treatment as well to use but recommended no further investigation. There seem to be a range of underlying medical conditions that can cause this as well as nutritional deficencies.
Sodium laurel sulphate is a hormone disruptor so i avoid shampoos with this now. This may help. Zinc and iron deficiency can cause hair loss. It may be time to get thoroughly checked out. For some reason i'm shedding much less since following advice on this site. I do the condition wash condition system with very gentle hydrating shampoo and conditioner (naked colour protect and herbal esenses hello hydration and as i seem to have been suffering from protein buildup i clarified first) and a few other things like using coconut and rapeseed oil (great detangler) and ACV rinses (frizz reduction). I used henna eight weeks ago too. So i seem to have less breakage to. I have been taking iron and zinc but only for the last week. I think getting a range of blood tests may be the only way to figure out the reason once and for all.

Intotouch, do you mean sodium laurYL sulphate or sodium laurETH sulphate? And can you link me some information about it being a hormone disruptor? My hormones easily get out of whack with horrible side-effects so I'm interested :o
Thanks.
PS I'm about to try castor oil - I'll update when I do! Excited about the results...

Wow, sakuramoon08! Your new growth is amazing! :hifive:
I have a few questions though. How do you apply your oil mixture? How much of each ingredient go into the batch you use? And also, how do you keep your hair looking clean with this? I in no way mean to offend, I understand the business of stretching washes, but how do you keep your hair from appearing greasy with this mixture sitting on the scalp for so long? Sorry for all of the questions, I'm just very curious about your method and am eager to try it. :flower:

Hi LightSabr I know you asked sakuramoon08 this question. But I hope you don't mind that I answer it also. I usually leave my Castor Oil on for 3 or 4 days. The big trick is how you apply it I believe. I use to apply the castor oil with my fingers big mistake, it would leave my hair and scalp grease. But when I changed to using the bottle method my scalp and hair is happy. If you go to Sallys and buy one of there hair dye applicator bottle. The one with the tiniest hole tip it makes distributing the castor oil real easy on the scalp. Just use a tiny amount on each side of your scalp. Like example one or two drops for left and right side of the scalp. And one or two drops for front and back of the scalp. Then I use my fingers to gentle massage it into the scalp. Afterwards I wait around 20 or 30 minutes and give my scalp and hair a good brushing. My hair usually never gets grease anymore if I just use a small amount of castor oil. The day before washing I usually just saturate my scalp and hair as a deep treatment. I find if I brush my hair everyday with a BBB my scalp and hair does not get grease also. HTH :D

I had no idea it was supposed to upset your scalp. I think that might be the case with some oils but castor oil is very cleansing and clears out follicles(its used in the OCM) so that might be why its fine on my scalp 24/7.
Its great your hair is so thick! I'm sure you'll be able to cope with it:rolleyes: lol

Thank you so much! I've been using my fingers to apply and have suffered from that dreadful greasiness. I'll be sure to pick up an applicator bottle. Do you still notice hair growth results from using such a small amount though?

Hi LightSabr I usually put it on every night. I find my hair really does grow faster with this method. Plus me being in my late 40's my growth was very slow. But the castor oil every night has just boosted my hair growth. In May of last year I had very long hair 45inches but for personal reason I decided to go totally bald.:D So my hair has always been slow growing but since I started using castor oil my hair is growing like a strong weed. Just wanted to say I don't regretted going bald.HTH

Hey LightSabr well here it goes...
1. I appy my oil with my hands, I sort of run my fingers through my scalp and that's how it goes on.
2. I have NightBlooming's hair oil, Jojoba oil, Camellia oil and the Castor oil mixed together. Sometimes I put the Panacea before, or sometimes I don't, depending on the feel of my hair. Never a specific amount I just mix it together until the consistency of the castor oil isn't so thick.
3. I use a boar bristle hair brush to get the oils from the top of my head down to my ends, thus looking less oily. I also put my hair up in braids and buns alot.
4. I was my hair once a week every Saturday or Sunday.

I measure it. I'm too chicken to dye my hair, and even if I did have the guts I have no idea what color would suit me. Such is the life of the fashionless! Lol! :D

Sometimes I leave castor oil for days with no problem. It's just a matter of getting used to it I guess. Def I find a great improvement when I use it.

Several months ago I tried Miconazole Nitrate and it worked well. It helped keep the hair on my head and even started new growth. It did however accelarate the greying process significantly and I felt unhealthy, didn't have a clear mind and even had trouble sleeping despite only using a very small amount. I was really hoping castor oil would have a similar effect for me without the sides but im afraid to say there are no signs of it helping in any way....I actually seem to be shedding much more and no signs of new growth at all. I have been diagnosed w/ pattern loss (diffuse throughout top)...I guess CO doesn't help people with androgenetic loss ugh. FYI I've been on Castor oil for approx 3.5 weeks, first by itself then currently mixing with Aloe gel and tee tree oil.

This is my second week of using castor oil/grapeseed oil to thin it down. I've been applying it once a week with a light scalp massage... 3 drops from front of head to top of crown, followed by 3 drops on each side and 2 rows of 3 drops on the back of my head. I CO twice a week as I am a gym rat and I don't want my scalp to get clogged with the oils and sweat. I've had a great deal of shedding since beginning the castor oil and am worried that I should not continue it. I LOVE my coconut oil, occasionally sweet almond oil with lavendar essential oil and jojoba with tea tree oil. LHC is the best thing that ever happened to my hair but there is SO much information that I'm not sure what "I" need to go with!! Trial and error, I guess!! Thanx to everyone for all the detailed information...it's so supportive to us that have just joined!!:D

I was using castor oil on my scalp for awhile mixed with, (gosh, can I remember?) Dabur Amla Gold (won't do that again, smells horrid) some apricot kernel oil and Rosemary and Lavender EO. It really slowed down my shedding, but was sort of messy, and I got a bit lazy about it. I am going back to it though, as I have been shedding a lot of late and feel a bit depressed about how thin my hair is.
Now that I think about it, I think I was putting too much oil in, and would have been better off with a lighter application, which is what I'll try.
Does anyone know if having oil in your roots would affect how well henna takes? I need to henna my roots on the weekend, and I'm really tempted to put some oil in my roots first....
