I ran a search on the forum using the term "Comb Clamp." I only got only one result and it wasn't the hair accessory I was looking for.

I found Comb Clamps at Sally's in California last year or so, and I haven't seen them since, except online. The large ones are ridiculously strong and very good at holding all of my hair. I gave one to my friend's girlfriend for her birthday (she has thick classic-length hair) and she was amazed to find that it held up all of her hair very well. She had said she'd had a hard time finding ways to put it up so that it held, so I thought she would like it. I've been meaning to get in touch with her and let her know about LHC.... but anyway.

I use them mostly in the shower, because they're made of plastic and keep my hair out of the way when I'm keeping my hair dry, but I also have some pretty ones that I use for various styles. I like them better than scrunchies because they put less pressure on my hair, and I think they hold better.

Have you seen them? Do you use them?

Here's a link to one on Amazon:

Yes! I have 5 of them! I have found them at random beauty supply stores. They are very strong. They will not hold all my hair, but they will hold a loop of it. I wear them at home all the time. I even sleep with one holding a loop of hair on top of my head. They are also nice because the spring is on the side so it is not that visible.

Hmm, I think I saw some of these at Walgreens recently. The "comb" part lies flat against the scalp, yes? I was intrigued but wasn't sure if they'd hold enough hair to be useful to me (half-ups are not on for me-- I feel they make me look like Gene Simmons back in his Kiss days...). Janis Cortese mentions ones from "Mona Lisa" on her Extreme Lengths (http://www.io.com/~cortese/hair/styling.html) styles page.

Looks like a Linziclip to me.

Is it basically a "claw clip" only with two springs, one on each side of a hard backpiece? Like a claw clip, only with the spring part hidden from view?

Here's a link to Linziclips (http://www.linshell.co.uk/), and here's a link to a google of them (http://www.google.com/search?btnG=1&pws=0&q=linziclip&qscrl=1). I know that in the USA, Scunci makes a wide variety of them, as well as a variety of other hair accessory suppliers.

Oh, wait... does it just have ONE spring, on just one side, and the "teeth" part just meets up with the other side of the backing?

If so, I'm positive I've seen those by either Goody or Scunci in my local Walmart/Target/Walgreens/Meijer type stores.

I have seen them at France Luxe website http://www.franceluxe.com/pc/LI2418/JawsCascades/index.html Are these the same?

Thanks for the pictures; yes, that looks very much like what I recently saw at a Walgreens with a good hair accessory selection, though I'm not positive what I saw had all the spikes on the underside of the decorative part. I think what I saw was from Scunci, but I may be wrong. Sounds like maybe I should try one. :D

I have a couple of comb clamps now, one from an unknown maker which I got second-hand, with one of the comb prongs broken off (and then I dropped it and broke off another one, grrr). Then I saw new ones from Goody at the Walgreens near me, and bought one of those, but the Goody one does not seem as satisfactory (they call them Kimberly Claw Clips (http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/goody-kimberly-claw-clip/ID=prod6007687-product)). The spring is not as strong, and the pointy bits (not the comb prongs but the points on the upper half of the thing) are less-pointy, which seems to make it prone to losing its grip and flopping down when I try to use it for Janis Cortese's Upbraided (http://www.prismnet.com/~cortese/hair/styling.html#upbraided) style. Also, the style I got has a matte finish (http://mp.hairboutique.com/Goody-Kimberly-Claw-Clip-Matte-Tort/P/126507), which might be good for someone with slippery hair, but I have grippy hair, so I think I should have gone with a shiny finish-- that probably would have been easier to stick into my hair (I think the Goody comb prong points are also blunter, so that may be a factor too).

But on the good side, after flailing around a bit I have found a style I can use the Goody comb clamp with, without undue flopping: a pencil bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0k3dD4qX34), with the comb part playing the role of the stick and the clamp adding stability.

I also saw a smaller (and pricier) comb clamp from "Stacey's Choice" at Whole Foods a couple months back.

Theses combs are awesome I like them very much and haven't seen much if any hair come out on the spring side.

Woot! Unfortunately I haven't been using mine anymore. As my layers grow out, my bun is getting thicker and thicker, and as far as I know, they don't make comb clamps that are any bigger than the ones I have.

If I try to put it in, then the comb clamp sort of sits all awkwardly on one side of my bun, but it doesn't look like it's supposed to anymore. So I just use mine for keeping my hair up in the shower, since it's all water friendly. :)

But I totally forgot they had minis! I should get some, for clipping it back! :cheese:

I know what you mean about it sitting oddly to one side. I've found I don't have that problem using it with a pencil bun, where it's not going over all the hair in the bun, so that might work for you.

The bad news is my Goody comb clamp broke, I'm not sure how, but it got a big crack entirely across part of the top piece. Probably I rested my sleepy head against something with too much abandon.

The good news is that I removed the hinge/spring with pliers (wear safety glasses, the small pieces may fly around), discarded the broken top part, and now I have the fork-like comb part to experiment with. It's doing a nice job of holding a cinnamon bun at the moment.

I have something like this - it's made by Lori Bijoux but I can't find an image of it. It's gorgeous and works really well. I bought it in David Jones (Australia).
