View Full Version : Kesavardhini Oil?

Hi, I just made a new bottle with my favourite Kesavardhini oil, Castor and coconut oil. I like this herbal oil for one reason that it doesn't stink and actually has a unique citrusy smell. The old threads were not to be seen and i thought will make a new one if someone is interested in joining in. Somehow, in the beginning i was a bit hesistant to use the oil as there are no ingredients and the color looks a bit scary(deep red). Then i assumed the color could be becoz of hibiscus oil in it and since then i used 2 bottles with no side-effects or problems. Do anyone else still use kesavardhini oil and if so how long and do you think it has mineral oil in it or color of some chemical? thanks  in advance...

There were a couple of threads about in it the archive.

I'm not sure about mineral oil and the coloring. Hibiscus oil is a possible colorant but it may get some coloring help.

I used it for a while, just over a year ago, for the length of time it took to use up one bottle diluted in coconut oil. It was ok but not amazing. I don't remember why I didn't get a new bottle. Possibly I had a harder time washing it out as I was still figuring out how much oil to use then. Any mineral oil it might have contained would not help with that.

I'd like to know the ingredients before I'd venture to try it again.

Thanks mira-chan, i know very few people know about it. I just started using it becoz i have a bottle at home and thought will try out again. Honestly i prefer the Neelibringadi oil but a change for my hair might do nice.

I brought this today (well technically yesterday now). I liked the idea that it could be mixed with a base oil of my choice, as opposed to waiting for the coconut based ones to melt.
I've not tried it yet, and to be honest buying it was a bit silly as i have so many oils to use up, plus it broke my rule of not buying an oil without knowing the exact ingredients....but, i recognised the name as one that had grabbed my attention so i figured i'd give it a shot.
So appart from Mira and Chotee (though of course i'd love to hear more from you two if there's anything good/bad to report?) has anybody else tried this oil? I'm especially interested to hear if anybody has found it effected their growth and/or shedding.

I don't remember the oil having much effect either way but I was just learning to use oils then. It wasn't bad. I was still in my big shed when I tried it and it did nothing for that, but again I did not use it that consistently.

I have to admit, that picture does make me pause and think "if only!", it's dreamy hair. Can i ask why you stopped using it?

Mira, yes consistency does seem to be the key......this oil hoarding obsession i have i think might scupper that a bit seeing as i have so many to get through and though i got all these new goodies i find myself just using the bhringraj oil. Though the heenara oil has become my new favourite for light length oilings....as much for the smell as anything else :o

Posting at the same time :)
That's a shame you can't get it anymore....maybe online? My hair loves coconut oil and til (sesame) too, in fact just about any oil as long as it's not mineral from what i can tell....though from my memory of the experiments i did a few years back some were noticeably more softening, and others more strengthening....i should re-experiment (oh the hardship! ;)) and combine the 2 results maybe.

ETA I forgot to mention, i'm lucky in that my hair is quite easy to get nicely conditioned....or at least seems it now that bane of my life chemical damage has finally gone....it's growth/shedding i'm more focussed on these days.

Ooh! You tempt me with the Heenara oil. I used Heenara hesh herb mix for a while which I liked. (Currently using Kalpi tone which is nice too.)

I know first time I used mineral oil it was amla oil by dabur and oh my goodness it was horrible the smell was eh ok but it take forever to wash it out and plus I had more fall with it after that never opened it again. Now it is just sitting there collecting dust:lol: Cant buy online I wish I could maybe if my boyfriend is feeling generous but he is going to Pakistan and he is staying in London so maybe if I beg?

Hehe i say go for it and try some.....it's actually a cheap experiment....my bottle cost something like £1.59. I've got both the heenara mixes, the supposedly colourant, and the hair wash version.....i've not used the wash but i have the colour and didn't notice a huge effect, more subtle in terms of colouring, but it did a great job as a one step wash/condition. I got kalphi tone without thinking but wasn't keen on deliberately darkening my hair so gave it to brunette instead.

Oh i've ranted so often about mineral oil....i think i got a reputation as some kind of militant ;)
I don't buy online either, i'm just lucky i live within travelling distance of places that sell most of the things i want. If your boyfriend agrees to go shopping for you i can give directions to the area i brought the kesavardhini oil from if you like.

I noticed no color from Heenara or Kalpi tone but then my hair is dark. I'll start looking into the oil once I use up at least one more of my stash oils. Discipline, I need it. :o

ETA: Aisha, from what I remember ( I don't have the Heenara box now, I do have the kalpi tone) Heenara and kalpi tone have heena, maka, amla, shikakai, brahmi, kapoor kachli and neem. A few more things I think but I'm not sure which ones as the Kalpi tone differs.

Kalpi tone has:
Amla, Maka leaves, mandoor, Japakusum flower, narangichal, shikakai fruit, kumari leaves, kapoor kachli, brahmi leaves, methi seed, wala, khadir stem, chandan, neem leaves, sitaphal seed powder, sugandhi dravya

This is the one that's supposed to colour.....my hair is sort of dark blonde naturally so if it only had a slight effect on mine it really won't colour yours from what i can imagine
http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/acatalog/Hesh-Heenara-Herbal-Hair-Pack.html

This is the hair oil which is lovely
http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/acatalog/Hesh-Naturoriche-Heenara-Hair-Oil.html

Unfortunately that site doesn't sell the heenara hair wash version, and the hesh site doesn't list the herbs, it's hard to read in this light but from what i can see it has
79% aritha, 10% shikakai, 5% amla, 1% kapoor kachli, 1% henna, 1% maka/bhringraj, 1% chandan, 1% gulab flower, 1% wala, 0.5% something i can't read properly.

If you find some discipline....can you lend me some? lol.....although, i did manage to resist an oil that was a base of coconut oil with homeopathic ingredients added....boasting some kind of hair growth stimulating formula.....i picked it up to buy it, but then put it down.....quite proud of myself ;) Although i did then buy yet another hesh oil called Armondol, but in my defence it has a base of coconut castor and almond all of which my hair loves, and a load of herb goodies like bhringraj amla brahmi....:o

I have used Keshavardhini oil and during the time I used it, I didn't have much shedding. If I had known the ingredients of the oil, it would have encouraged me more to use that one, especially as Aisha25 says, the picture of the girl on the bottle cover made me dream of having such hair! The oil had a gingery smell, other than that, I couldn't even guess what was in it. I can imagine that some castor oil was in it, but I am just guessing. So I gave up. I too have that bottle in my cupboard unused.

I would love to know if anyone had good growth of hair, using Keshavardhini oil. I have heard that you have to use it for a long period, for it to show any effects. I used it only once or twice...

My present favorite oil is "Ramtirth Brahmi Oil". This oil has good ingredients, has noticeably reduced my shedding (even though it could be just a coincidence) .... and I feel really happy with this oil. I use it regularly now. I think I may just use Ramtirth and occasionally Neelibringadhi oil from now on.

Yes I hear same thing too it says you have to keep using the oil for very long time to see any good effects. Ramtirth oil is I think one of the best and I think you should just use those 2 Diamondbell that way your hair is not seeing too many different oils at same time just stick with what is working;)
 I am certain if I beg chloe and thanks to for the ingredients looks to me like an herbal wash and not a colorer with all those good herbs it cant hurt:)

See now you have me wanting to try the Ramtith Brahmi Oil, i did actually see it in a shop but wasn't sure if it had mineral oil in or not so left it alone. For the moment i'll have to resist....unless....does it smell nice? :p

Aisha, the wash only has 1% henna so yes i don't think it would colour hair. I was thinking about the colourant though, and when i used it i didn't leave it on for hours like i normally would with henna, maybe if i left it on for longer it might stain more....i might experiment. :)

Mira-Chan, for some reason i thought Kalpi tone had indigo in it and was to colour hair dark.

I thought it had indigo too but apparently not. It does advertise the "making hair dark" thing.

Forced discipline today. First errand took too long and I would have been late for class had I gone to the Indian store. Oh well, next time I have class, I'll go.

It smells really nice. ;) I am pretty sure there is no mineral oil in it, since it is an Ayurvedic preparation. Usually I don't like perfumed oils. But this one (Ramtirth Brahmi Oil) smells all natural !

No, i've not used it yet......i'm using the old hesh bhringraj oil on my scalp and vatika on my length at the moment. Part of me wants o try the kesavardhini oil but i find it so hard to allow myself to use a product when the company refuses to list the ingredients.
I'm surprised you are using it as you seem so loyal to the ramtirth brahmi oil! :p I've not seen that in the shops yet, but if i do and it's a reasonable price i will try it i think. Though i'm hoping that my favourite oil will become available again as i notice the hesh site is listing it again. Of all the oils i've tried i think for scalp massage the hesh bhringraj oil is the one i find the best.

Yes, I am in two minds on this - whether to continue using Kesavardhini oil or not. Knowing the ingredients would be helpful.

I stopped using Ramtirth a long time ago (no reason really). Then I used home-made oils (coconut oil boiled with amla, liqorice). Then I had a lot of Nilibringadhi oil left over and used it all up. I need to buy Nili oil but no time to go shopping. So I am using plain coconut oil sometimes and sometimes coconut oil with a drop of Kesavardhini oil. :) - I am sure bhringaraj oil must be one of the best...

Never had a chance to continue Kesavardhini oil...but in the meanwhile, i used 2 bottles of Ramthirth and Neeli oil and i am so happy with them too....but right now its Navarathna Himani oil which is a more of cooling oil. I thought since i am in a tropical hot place, i will use it and see...have any one of you used this oil before, so far i don't see any effects but my scalp remains cool for an hour or so after applying and i usually mix it with my favourite castor oil or coconut oil or both. Again even this one is bright reddish color and makes my castor oil red too but thought will give it a try...btw, mirachan, thanks for the input on Heenara oil, never heard of it...very soon i will move to a place where lots of indian shops are around which will defenitely give me a chance to buy it....

I gave up Kesavardhini oil again after using it only 2 times. This is because I am wondering what the ingredients could be all the time! I once heard from someone that if you use Kesavardhini oil, first you have a lot of shedding, and then later everything becomes normal. Don't want to take that risk either :D

How did you like Ramtirth oil chotee? I liked it a lot, but felt that a sesame oil based oil like Nili oil is just much more cooling. Living in the tropics I need that. But I didn't know that Navarathna Oil is so cooling!! :ponder: - makes me want to try it, though I have to buy Nili Oil again soon - that is my most favorite so far.

Chotee I have the Navratna oil but i've not used it on myself as i found out after buying it that it contains mineral oil :(
I do use it on my dad though and he really likes it, epecially when he has sore muscles. I also used it on my ex b/f once for a headache and he admitted the headache went. So i see the Navratna oil as a good oil for pain more than for hair condition.

The Navratna oil does feel cooling because it has menthol and peppermint in it, but again....mineral oil for me is an issue in it. Also i find the smell quite masculine/medicinal xx

All I could find about it is kesavardhini is a plant, commonly called the hair growth plant. Botanical name is Centratherum punctatum if you want to research it.
