View Full Version : Split ends can't be "healed" - or can they?

I just saw a commercial for some new Nexxus shampoo (don't remember the exact name of it) that sounds a little suspect to me... First, they say it binds the split ends back together. Later in the ad they say it "heals" the hair. That's not possible, right? Since the ends of your hair are technically dead and it grows from the root, how could it grow back together? Just the word "bind" that they used sounds scary to me - like it has glue in it, or that the buildup from long-term use would be horrible...

Nope, can't be healed. It can make it look as if they have, but it can't actually do it. It's like Pantene adverts: "Healthy looking hair" rather than just "Healthy hair." Sneaky marketing. :p

What she said.
Products can make them look better, but a split is a split is a split. Not gonna heal.

This is what I've always thought, but the exact word they used was "heal" - no sneakiness there, just outright lies!

It only binds it together temporarily, it doesn't heal, which is still better than letting it continue to split up the shaft.

The product is called pro- mend.
I started a thread about this yesterday.

I did not buy the shampoo I did buy the Over night treatment and the leave in.
So far I like it. After one use I do not feel any build up but time will tell.
Since it only goes on my ends if it does cause drying like pantene then I can afford to trim if the results require that.

You cannot reverse a split end. The only cure once you have a split end,is to cut it off. Those products may for a time make the split end look better, but will not get rid of the split.

I do not mind if a product only makes the splits look repaired just so long as it is not ruining my hair in the process.
I do wonder if in binding the splits if it does, as the commercial claims, prevent further splitting up the shaft?
If that turns out to be true then it would be a god send for many of us long hairs.
Less trimming and allowing us to acquire more length without splits traveling up.
Is anyone else willing to try this with me?

I couldn't find any split ends for a month or so after I applied Punky hair dye (similar to Manic Panic) last year. I liked that!

Most products just make your hair appear healthier on the outside but its still unhealthy. Nothing can heal a split end. You always have to cut it off.
