I'm looking for some new styles besides a cinnabun or braids. Anyone have ideas for updos/buns for hair around the short BSL range?

/Have you been through the styles in the Articles Section? I really like the 'Serpentine Medusa Wiggle bun' and 'Little Buns hairdo'.

I like the pencil bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0k3dD4qX34) for everyday. And the swoop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx1wl8fNvto) bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=3858&pictureid=65884) is really lovely and fancy!

I like the flipped bun (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7581080099802811376#)-- if at first it seems like your hair is too short for it, try starting your coil at a different spot (it works for me if I start coiling below my pony, but not if I start coiling above it).

The cheater's easy hairstick bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=25145) is another one I like.

The double braided bun makes me look like I must have hair down to there, which is fun (sorry, I can't find a link to Madora's description, perhaps because it's past my bedtime...).

And I like a folded braid (usually a "faux French" braid), which I secure against my head with an "elastic slide" a.k.a. a horizontal hairstick with an elastic looped around both ends, the folded braid and some scalp hair sandwiched between the two.

How about the split bun and lazy wrap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTt771qkO24&playnext=1&list=PLCEB494E758033B4F

A knot bun is stupidly easy to do, and a tiny bit tricky to fasten. Very good bang for buck because it also looks exceedingly mysterious. You probably have long enough hair for it. You pull your hair into a ponytail, tie it into a regular knot (gently! don't yoink!), and tuck the ends under the knot. I usually fasten with spin pins to make it look more like it's held up by magic, but almost anything will work.

The Hypno, Artemis and Nautilus buns are pretty similar, and you should be juuuust edging into a length where they're doable. They also teach some neat basic skills that get used a lot in fancier or more elaborate looking updos. I like Hypnotica's videos for them.

Your hair is probably a bit short for Hypnotica's Romantic French Twist, but it and the Stardust bun in the articles section show how you can take basic techniques and use them to build a unique style. Learning to do that means all of a sudden your styling toolkit feels a lot bigger, and you get a lot less bored.

Seconded. :) I can do both of these on APL+ hair (2" to brastrap). The lazy wrap is good for when you don't need a rock solid bun, and don't want bun-waves. And the split bun stays all day for me (especially if you add a second hair stick for support).

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, seeing as how I'm wanting to know the same thing. :)

Thanks you all! I just tried to do the flipped bun but somehow ended up with a figure 8 bun that held.. I repositioned it and somehow it stayed. (very happy) cause I thought I couldn't do that.. exciting! Now I have a whole new set of buns to try during the week :D I'm trying to keep my hair up so that I don't damage it as much. Again, thank you!
