Hey,
For a bit of time now I have been searching for a easy way to put my hair up, but I have not found a god way yet.
Normally I make a bun with a elastic band, but my hair is getting heavy so I am beginning to get a headache when waring it like that.

So I am searching for a easy, fast to do hair style, and i prefer on where I do not have to use a lot of bobby pins.

I hope you can help me, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Have you looked threw the articals on styels. I found a couple that I could make work with my hair and I am not yet to waist. The thickness of my hair makes it hard to wrap it around many times but I found some that are doable. You may try the wrap bun or some of the other styles that Phalaenopsis has posted, she has simalar hair to you.

I find that buns done with horizontal hairsticks don't usually pull and hold well.

Unless your hair is really super-thick, you'll probably be able to manage something like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0YIyUGn2pI). Extra length can be wound around the base.

Thank you, but i guess my hair is super thick or I just don't have the coordination to do it.

If you got other suggestions they are very welcome

The styles you can do depend on how thick your ponytail circumference is. Try looking through the thick hair thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=43020) to find members with a similar length and thickness to yours and see which styles they can do. :)

My hair type is similar to yours (ponytail circumference ~4-4.25-ish) and here are the styles I do. I am rather incompetent with buns, so I stick to different kinds of braids since they accommodate my thickness and bun-skill better.

Lazy Wrap Bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYILClga8Gw) - Instead of wrapping the hair around my whole hand, I use one or two fingers and secure with an XL Flexi-8 'cause my hair literally spits chopsticks out.

Chinese Bun (http://www.longhaircommunity.com/forums/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=128) - I have layers, so I need to use extra pins in addition to one chopstick.

Rose/Braided Bun for iii Hair (http://www.longhaircommunity.com/forums/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=174) - Works well with other types of braids as well as ropes.

The Pencil Bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0k3dD4qX34)

Loepsie's Fully-Rolled Sock Bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I13J7ArHTkM)

The Flower Pin Roll Bun (http://rapunzelsresource.wordpress.com/2010/09/03/my-first-video-tutorial/)

I also find tucked/folded French/English braids to be very comfortable.

I hope one of those styles works for you! :flower:

My hair is really thick. I get headaches from having a style started "up high" on my head. Hair Sticks and other all-the-way-thru toys kill my head.

I like jaw clips, but I'll break the plastic or resin types in an hour.

I've been the most successful so far with metal claw/jaw clips, the kind with the Swarovski crystals. I use 4 smaller ones around a bun, and 1 or 2 medium size will hold cute twist.

It sounds like metal would hurt, but this works for me.

I think I might try a Ficcare, too. :)

I second the suggestion of perusal of the thick hair thread. I personally like the pencil bun for something quick and rather sturdy with one stick. I like the lazy wrap, but I can only get mine to hold reliably with a medium Ficcare. My other go-to bun is an inverted cinnamon bun (make a cinnamon bun and then flip the bottom of it over to the top). It will hold with a couple of hair sticks or a fork, maybe a large Ficcare, but I don't have one to try that out for sure.

Thank you very much, for the answers, I got the lazy wrap bun working when I use two fingers instead of the whole hand, and I will definitely look at the thick hair thread.

Good luck finding some go-to buns that work for you. I was not quite waist when I found LHC over a year and a half ago. I had always thought I had "long hair" but could never get my hair into any of the updos...ha! Now I know from LHC that thick hair has to be waist length or longer for most updos. I found closer to hip length made a lot of updos possible, plus growing out the layers I had. Also, have you tried hair forks? I find they hold my hair much better than a single stick.

My go-to when I want all-day hold is the hypno bun. It is in the article...I'll see if I can locate hypnotica's tutorial on utube...

Does anyone have a good source for hair toys for thick hair. Everything I find breaks or costs an arm and a leg.

Have you tried Flexi-8s (http://www.flexi8.com/)? They have all kinds of sizes, designs, and colors that you can choose from. You can even have one custom-made for you. They aren't too expensive and I have never had one break on me... nor have I ever read about them breaking for others.

Ketylos are also fantastic and relatively cheap. This is the site:

As far as updos for thick hair, you kind of need to modify many of them until you get to at least hip. For instance, if the bun calls for wrapping around the hand, I usually use 1-2 fingers or a thumb. You can also do multiple-bun styles (like one with your crown hair and one with your nape hair). And of course thick hair looks amazing in braids, though I know many LHCers don't really consider those up-dos.

I like the figure 8 for my hair it is sturdy.
