My first french twist!

Ok so it took me forever, because I am a total bobby pin NOOB, but I finally got it beaten into submission. :D

Its kind of a mess from the front, but if I pin my bangs back it might look too formal for my tank top and jean shorts "look" lol..

Cute! For a less "formal" look, you can always let your ends stick out of the top like a little fan...

Very good, it's harder to do with just bobby pins. Try to get some hair pins (http://jazzabelletresses.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/hair-pins.jpg) or just two shorter sticks. Of course there's also the french twist comb (http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/images/FrenchTwistComb1SmFlower_250.jpg). :D Once you have the right tools, a lot of possibilities open up (and gets a lot easier).

Goody spin pins are a godsend for french twists if you don't feel like fussing with bobby pins.

The French twist was my first updo, but I was never able to fix it with bobbypins. I agree with Lianna regarding shorter sticks and combs, Flexis and Ficcares will do as well. For my first French twist, a comb like this one worked best (http://www.amazon.com/French-Twist-Comb-Three-Tortoise/dp/B002RN6WY6) (mine doesn't have any beading as well). Or try three pins (http://www.etsy.com/listing/60107853/triforce-aluminum-hair-pins?ref=sr_gallery_8&ga_search_query=french+twist+comb&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade). For inserting from the top, two (http://www.etsy.com/listing/69974894/dymondwood-hair-fork?ref=sr_gallery_4&ga_search_query=hair+stick&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=2&ga_facet=) or three tine (http://www.etsy.com/listing/66711693/metal-hair-stick?ref=sr_gallery_5&ga_search_query=french+twist+comb&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade)forks will be suitable as well. I'd prefer wood or horn as a beginner.

Nicely done. I'm just past shoulder and I still can't manage a french twist. I suspect it may be one of those hairstyles I never do get right, but yours looks great with the bangs.

Congratulations! It will get easier with practice, and I've never found anything better for holding a french twist than bobby pins or a french twist comb/fork.
