Just use a cotton headband. An old, dark one preferably, because if it's henna/cassia it will get stained. Put it on your head just after applying the paste/mud/oils/mask/whatever.
I did cassia treatment yesterday. Normally leaking would start after an hour, would last for next 4 hours and I'd have cassia on my back and on my face. But I used cotton headband, maybe 2 inches wide, and most of cassia soaked in it:D Yaay!

It's simple, but useful :flower:

ETA: As Phexlyn and RadiantNeedle pointed out, it would be easier to put the headband on before applying anything, leave it down, around your neck and then just slip it up ;)

But do keep in mind, the dark colors have dye. That dye can transfer. I know this from experience. I used a black one and once it was soaked in coconut oil and I had taken it off I put it on my white shirt, which now has black spots all over.

So I'd say go for a white headband... it's not like your gonna use it for anything else once it's been hennaed.

Would you say it's a good idea to put the headband on, leaving it around your neck, then stick on your henna? That way you can just slip the band up into place after you've wrapped your hair with plastic wrap, etc and not have to stretch the band over everything, potentially messing stuff up?

I use something similar - an elastic bandage that I get at the pharmacy. Very easy to use!:)

You guys are genius! I wish I had thought of this before yesterday's henna mess ;)

I think it would work to put on the headband before applying, although you'd have to be careful not to stain it with henna in the process. It might be a bit more difficult to reach the nape hairs, but that should be no problem.

You're right, guys :):)

My mom and I use a thick knit toque over our plastic bags to help keep our body heat in and that kind of helps with it since the back soaks up some leaky henna. haha. I might have to see if I can find a dark headband though...I don't have any anymore. Usually I just stuff a rolled up piece of papertowel in the back...and it works great until it's fully saturated and falls out....

I do this. I bought a pack of those stretchy headbands specifically for my deep oil treatments.

But do keep in mind, the dark colors have dye. That dye can transfer. I know this from experience. I used a black one and once it was soaked in coconut oil and I had taken it off I put it on my white shirt, which now has black spots all over.

Thank you for posting this. I hope you don't mind if I quote you in the first post, so everyone can easily find this info ;)

Wow, how did I not ever think of this? Thank!
I have just been using pieces of tissue stuck into whatever area is leaking. pain in the a**!

Usually after I henna I put on a shower cap, after that I tip my head upside down and wrap a silk scarf tightly around my head. This seems to work pretty well. I leave my henna on overnight and it still leaks a tiny bit so I put an old towel over my pillow and this catches the henna trickles that escape.

Now you see I know this, and in my head I'm thinking "oh, smart!" but I won't do it. Lol, I don't even wear gloves but henna never sticks to anything but my hair so it doesn't bother me. It would be nice to not have it dripping down my back but I'm just too lazy!

I haven't had nearly as much of a problem with my henna mix leaking since I started adding a couple tablespoons of regular table sugar into my mix. I read about doing that somewhere on this great big board; thought, "that sounds way too simple, how can that work?" Tried it - and it does! I get almost no leakage now, and I leave my mix on overnight. I think I'll try your headband method as well, though, cos sometimes my headgear shifts a bit while I'm sleeping, the headband sounds like it would hold my plastic wrap and knit cap in place a bit better - thanks for sharing! :flower:

Some great tips here! I´m going to henna tomorrrow, and I will try both the headband and a dash of sugar! Thanks!

I've been using a terrycloth sweatband for about a year now -- it really is one of those "why didn't I think of this before" moments when you do finally think of it!
