Ok, ok, not exactly the greatest accomplishment in history, it's old hat to you all I am SURE, but I have spent all day trying to find a up- style for my hair, and after failing miserably with braiding my short-ish layered hair, I decided to give this a try. Well It may not be the best job ever, but I'm proud of it anyway. Even though it took me an hour to perfect and a pair of perfectly good leotards had to give their life to the cause, it made my day anyway:D

Looks cute! The bangs look great. I'm debating whether or not I should get bangs soon.

Yeah, I just don't have any bobby pins or anything, all I have are my daughter's butterfly clips:) .
But I plan to get some, and some claw/butterfly clips so I can find some different ways to do my hair.
Thanks for the suggestion, I think it would look more chic all up too.
This way is more casual, which is fine too.
I'm just psyched I found a style that I can do.

Congrats, it does look a bit irregular, but this way it's harder to tell, that there is a sock in there

When I was younger I made a bun ring out of some old tights (aka pantyhose) which was near the colour of my hair and it made a really big pouffy looking chignon either on the nape or the back.

Nicely done! I must admit that I usually don't like the look of sock buns because they often look too big and strangely "fake". But I really like yours it's appropriately proportional and looks real. I hope that makes sense!

Nice job! I really like it.

Oooh wonderful! I've recently started using this CONSTANTLY with little flowers... It makes my hair look longer and it's such a morale booster... a real incentive to just throw it up and forget about it! :cheer:

Yeah, it's not perfect, a little lopsided but oh well :D
I used my daughter's brown leotards. I owe her a pair now. They didn't have a hole in them or anything, But I figured it's almost summer (in Texas anyway, it's been 70 for the last two weeks)
and she'll probably outgrow them by next winter anyway.
I tried with a regular sock, but it didn't match my hair and was too big and bulky, a lot harder that way.

I think they look better when they're a little messy... I try to puff mine out a little more, pull a few strands out further (gently! Hehee) ... It makes it look much bigger and much ore 'organic' somehow... Casual but very pretty, especially with non-damaging little flowers... Like you said, it's almost summer now, we need to get in the sunshine spirit!

Very cute! Congrats on your accomplishment!!

Sadly, my hair is so big, thick, and wild, even at a little past shoulder, I still can't manage a sock bun. Well I suppose if it were soaking wet I could, but then I risk more damage that way, so...

Anyway, your looks great!!

Excellent job! That is actually one bun I haven't done myself - hair is really too long for it, allthough the fully rolled variety might work :ponder:

Alvrodul what do you mean your hair is too long? Mine is at knee and I beg to differ! ;)

This is not the fully rolled, since shorties can't do them. This is the normal kind:

Fullly rolled:

Those who find that their hair is too thick can do it without a sock (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=7001&pictureid=96941)! I did and turned out well, a bit softer. :)

Those are my two favorite hair videos! :D

My hair is about 17" long right now. If I do the normal sock bun, I end up with 2"-5" bits that fan out around the bun. I can sort of wrangle them to wind around the bun (corralled with plenty of bobby pins), but they try to escape. The occasional maverick makes a beeline for the horizon. I've been hiding some of this forbidden activity by wrapping a scarf or bandana around the bun-hair/scalp-hair junction.

Is my hair too short for the fully rolled version?

I just achieved the fully rolled version (looks much better IMHO) and it looks so great. I feel like a ballerina. It really makes it look like I have loads of hair. I'll probably buy a nicer pair of socks in the future, I used one of my boyfriend's old holey Hanes one he was about to toss.
