I like the braids, too. I also appreciate the first picture showing all the different lengths of individual hairs because I have this too, and it's been looking worse to me lately.

You might want to try my trick for tying off braid-ends without a kink. Wrap a strip of ribbon around and around the end of your braid, then put a small ouchless band or even rubber band around the ribbon. I have taper at the bottom, too, and the ribbon adds thickness and protects the hair itself.
