Hi There -

Had my hair up in a French twist the other day and when it came down it looked really pretty, and that got me thinking. I wanted larger curls, but that general idea - the spiral thing over the waving thing.

I'm looking for something that would act like a set of curlers. I've usually got my hair braided and have done about every permutation of braid waves. I'm wondering about curls.

I hate curlers. I love curls.

This is a wise crowd. I'd love to hear what you have to say!

Lots of people here have had good luck with a fully rolled sock bun. They get amazing big curls from it. It's never worked for me...I prefer to do a beebutt bun with slightly damp hair. I get nice curly ends when I take it out.

I always do a plain cinnabun and it gives me good curls when I take it down. My hair is naturally wavy.

I love how curly my hair looks after "Pin Curls"

I found the instructions on this site (Please note- This is not my website, I'm just a fan!):

There was a thread last summer with a link to someone's video about a scarf bun thing meant to curl your hair. You roll your hair up into a triangle shaped scarf or folded bandana and you could wear it like that or sleep on it. People were getting nice curls. I can never remember the thread title when I try to search for it.

The loop bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=7001&pictureid=93324) works for me. And here (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=20761) is the archive for the "drying method".

This picture probably isn't the best to show you since the coconut oil didn't want to come out of my hair and made the curls fall out a bit, but I did five mini bee butt buns and they give decent curls (normally my hair is stick straight).

I've got awesome curlers that I have used since I was a kid and are soft enough to sleep on (even when I was a finicky little kid). If I let my hair dry in them I get some really nice curls but because my hair takes forever to dry, I don't usually do that. I make a mix of pure aloe vera gel, Burt's Bees Avocado butter pre-shampoo treatment (which I often use as a leave-in conditioner) for it's beautiful scent and moisturizing properties, hot water (which of course I let cool before using) and occasionally some jojoba oil.

I mix it in a little spray bottle and play with quanta ties until I get the consistency I am looking for (which is a sort of conditioner thick substance) and then, after combing out my hair, I spray it onto a bbb and use that to spread it through the hair that I am putting on each curler.
I get AMAZING corkscrew curls out of this method but you can use the curlers for a more traditional looking curl too.

When I want some beautiful curly-waves, I put my damp hair in this http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=142 bun and let is dry in that style. I can get the same results if I use a little bit of oil on my dry hair too.

For anyone interested, I use the Wrap, Snap, and Go curlers. They can be ordered on Amazon or found is most Sally's Beauty Supply shops.

I vote for the cinnabun... I love the curls when I take it down.
