Hey everyone! I'd been wanting to try a faux hawk for a awhile. Taking advantage of a snow day (YAY!), I tried it out using this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYb1uHPJ-6k&feature=relmfu

as inspiration. Here are my results:

I really like it, but have no idea where I would actually WEAR it...I'd also love to see pics of others' hawks!

I just watched that video, that is pretty darn cool. My hair is slowly growing. Right now about 3 inches at the bottom is the unhealthy part o fmy hair which im slowly trimming away and healthier hair growth is coming in ever since i started using my new regimine. soon as i can find a way to get my lush thich hair back instead of this thin frail stuff im goign to try that style.

That. Looks. Awesome. Yours came out so well!

I'm really tempted to try it, but I don't have any little u-pins or bobby pins... I'll have to get some and see how badly I can mess this up. :p

Thanks, ladies! I'm hoping to find a concert or crazy bar to go to so I won't feel like a nut wearing it out.

Kaijah- If you try it, please post pics!

VERY cool! If I had longer hair I'd be all over it. I've got really short hair right now and thinking about starting to grow it back, but I kinda want to do something fun/silly with it while I have the chance. I was thinking faux hawk because I find them adorable, but it seems like there's been such a backlash against the style.

That. Looks. Awesome. Yours came out so well!

I totally agree with Kaijah!!I've been ogling the video for months and even attempted the hawk a few times, but I just don't have enough hair for this. Length yes, but too thin :( Maybe if I end up with a slow yet inspired day I'll rise to the challenge and make the style work somehow.

Oh and Kristin since yours came out that well, I say wear it everywhere :D

That is so cool and looks awesome on you :flower: Most long-hair do's are rather conservative and this is very unusual and refreshing.

Ohhhh... I looooove it. I loved the faux-hawk when I was at pixie, but I never thought about it being possible at longer lengths!

LisaMonster - I think your hair needs to be pulled back tighter. Remember, on original mohawks, most of the head was shaved. And that tightness will make the "hairy" part look bigger.

I would also suggest leaving more hair out of the pins.

Anyway, just my 2 cents! You look good with your hair pulled back.

That's really tight. I did that once myself. If I can find pictures I'll post them. :)

ETA: Found them! However, mine is different from yours. I twisted my hair up. I don't know how long ago I did this (at least 2 years, maybe 3.) :)

I totally wore this style out the other night. Was super fun looking and my bf even loved it. Didn't get a picture though :( But next time I shall.
I also should mention that I didn't use a curling iron, just kind of twisted the hair and pinned... although I had to use lots of hairspray to keep it in place.

I think I need a little bit more length for it to work properly - I gave it a quick go the other night and it kinda looked like I'd just thrown my ponytail on top of my head :p I didn't have enough length to balance it out at the back, or else the top didn't reach my hairline. Might try it again with my hair a little straighter for the length, or else wait for another inch or two!

Wow, I did not realize how many people had replied to this thread! I'm so glad you guys liked it! I actually curled my hair with my Caruso rollers before doing this mainly because I think it's too long to do straight.

The 'hawks look great! Keep posting! I think we should start a new trend and wear them everywhere!

Sidenote: looking at that photo again, it suddenly struck me that I look a little like Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley, lol
