What do you call a slide made of a hairstick + elastic?

I saw this recently in a youtube logroll tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk9GF6Xbb2M), where the updo was secured (about 50 seconds into the clip) with a sturdy hairstick and an elastic (the stick goes horizontally behind the logroll, and then the elastic is looped around both ends of the hairstick). It seems like such a brilliant and flexible idea, I was amazed I'd never run across it before (or thought of it myself, d'oh!). Is there some term for this combination of hairstick + elastic to make a stretchy slide? It's my new go-to method for securing a folded up braid and I wish I'd known about it years ago!

I don't know what it's called either, but it's awfully handy. I sometimes use them over a cinnamon bun with two sticks and two elastics, and it stays really nicely.

I know a store here sells slides like that, using an elastic rather than a traditional, more rigid slide. I don't know whether they have a specific name, though. That'd be pretty cool :)

Do you use a regular hair elastic and hairstick? What a neat idea!

There used to be a hair stick with an elastic attached to it made. It's not exactly like the youtube video but close.

They were called Hairdosticks or Bandosticks.

I have a Bandette comb, which is similar.

I don't think there is a single, accepted name for it, but it's certainly a slide of some kind!

There's a member, darned if I can remember her name or which person, who uses a small hairstick with an elastic for each of her twin buns. She had cute pic from this summer in her album like that.

The Bandette comb looks like something I just saw at Claire's but with a different name, the Comfy Comb or some such.

I'd never heard of the Bandostick or Hairdostick, but I found some suggestions here (http://www.bellasugar.com/Bellissima-Ted-Gibson-Bandostick-733592) for how to use them which I might try with my improvised version.

I don't think using a hairstick and elastic has a name, but I've heard of people using that method with the elastic twisted in the middle to see if flexi-8 barrettes (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=17757) would work for them. :)

Yep, I guess we'll have to think of our own name for it if we want to call it something. "Elastic slide" perhaps? Other ideas?

I was actually getting ready to order my first flexi-8 as a little reward, but learning this technique has totally de-enabled me! I didn't know that could even happen! Perhaps it's only temporary.;)

Just to enthuse a tad more, one of the things I like is how one can easily adjust the elastic length by twisting it a time or two, as you mention, or weaving two elastics together varying amounts (not to mention using different size elastics). I haven't really needed to adjust it yet, but I'm happy to know that I can, it's so frustrating to outgrow a favorite tool or technique. In the past, when my updo repertoire consisted of a stubby braid clipped to the back of my head with a French barrette (yes, that was my entire repertoire!) it always drove me nutty when I started pushing the limits of my barrettes as the braid got longer and I wanted to fold it before securing it. That probably led to more haircuts than I care to admit!:nono:

OHHHHHHH......cheap enabling I can so see making an elastic out of hat elastic and beaded. Much like the flexi's but without the combs - btw I can not use the combs cause they hurt my head but a stick......
