I saw some people here on LHC mention Sailor moon as a good hair inspiration and so I started watching it.
I love it! Usagi inspired me to keep on.
Which are your favourite characters who inspire you to work on with your hair?

For me, as you may be able to tell (<<) it's Tomoyo from CardCaptor Sakura, but it's not that she does anything amazing with her hair, it's just that her hair is always amazing :)

Anne Boleyn from The Tudors inspired me to finally grow my hair out for good. Also Katherine Howard from the same show.

Katara from 'Avatar: The Last Airbender.' (The cartoon, not the movie.) She is one of the main reasons I want to grow my hair out. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous. :inlove: Not to mention I can cosplay her better with longer hair!

Nina Dobrev as Elena & Katherine from The Vampire Diaries.

Sandra Bullock as Sally Owens in Practical Magic.

For me, growing up watching Princess type movies just fueled my love for long hair, but the two that really sealed the deal for me are Princess Buttercup from the Princess Bride(both book and movie) and Morgaine from TNT's: The Mists of Avalon. Although, my hair will never be that dark, my hair takes well to curls!

also, morgana from merlin. I love all the intricate styles she had done, but i can't find a guide or reference to them anywhere so i want to get really good and familiar with techniques that 1 day i'll be able to look back at the series and figure out how they're done instantly!

Pretty much any good fantasy hair, especially the paintings (http://www.jwwaterhouse.com/paintings/)by John William Waterhouse, which aren't TV or Movies but are pretty inspiring IMO! And, of course, the Lord of the Rings (books, movies, fan art, etc.)

I don't have one particular character that's an inspiration...but there are a lot of anime girls that have what I want, but I don't know if it would look right IRL: Having waist length (or longer) straight hair, but have pieces in the front that sit at the chest. Like this:

I permed my hair into the depths of hell trying to get Daryl Hanna's hair in "Splash"
It never happened.
I just watched it again a few days ago on TV, still awesome hair, still jealous of it.

Oh Sandra Bullock's hair in pretty much anything she does, particularly Practical Magic though. She has the most perfect head of hair ever.

Also agree with Anne Boleyn from Showtime's The Tudors, it's so beautiful & luscious & shiny!!

Others for me are...

Barbara Streisand's in Funny Girl (long & short)
Clare Dane's in Stardust
Anything from HBO's Rome

It actually looks nice IRL, or I think so anyway. I had something similar when my hair was long because I wanted to get some shorter hair to better frame my face. Mine were about shoulder length while the rest was at waist, so it's similar to the pic you have, but shorter all around. :) Oh, but I didn't have bangs, and most anime characters do. :p

Kahlan from The sword of truth books. A former co-worker used to call me Kahlan, when I asked what it meant he leant me the first book in the series. I was already growing my hair long but that keeps me motivated.

Funny thing is his name was Richard (and no he wasn't interested in me .... or women at all ;)) Apart from my green eyes I don't see a lot of resemblance, but found it very flattering.

I also LOVE the Elfquest comics, the evil elf chick Winnowill(sp?) has uber long hair. Another cartoon that inspired me was Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. The character Charlotte's hair

Brooke Shields in Blue Lagoon, I know her hair was a wig but still it looked amazing on her:D.

Drew Barrymore's long fake hair in Cinderalla.

Nina Dobrev has gorgeous silky hair.

Lian Nichang from The Bride With White Hair. I saw this when I was much younger (probably not appropriate but oh well) and fell in love with super long hair. This is probably also the reason I want white hair....and would love to be able to use my hair like a whip.

Pah... Annoying link disappeared!

ANYWAY... it was from Howls Moving Castle. Sophie, as her young self, with the grey braid from near the end of the film :)

I thought it was lovely to see a YOUNG woman with silver hair. I am always a little bit anxious that when I give up my dye, people are going to think me very odd...

When I was a little girl, I wanted hair just like Mary's from Little House on the Prairie.

As I got older it was Jane Seymour's hair from Dr. Quinn that inspired me to work on improving AND growing mine out.

Now... I look forward to having a big, fat, beautiful silver braid trailing down my back. It'll be decades before my hair changes, but I've seen this on a few people (in real life AND movies) and that's my eventual goal.

Deffinately Emmy Rossum in Phantom of the Opera, her hair is amazing!!! Her curls are so beautiful as well!

Disney princesses of course, especially Ariel from The Little Mermaid and Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

There is also Anne of Green Gables, when her hair is longer and she's gone to school to become a teacher... LOVE her hair.

2nded. I've been reading the Elfquest series since I was a kid. I could never decide if I was more inspired by Winnowill's floor length (and then some) black hair or Clearbrook's slightly more reasonable (knee) length silvers. Honestly, pretty much the entire character population of that series could serve as inspiration. I don't think Wendy Pini knows how to draw ugly hair.

On topic, I always adored Olivia de Havilland's hair in The Heirress. No clue if it's all real, but it's lovely. Especially the style she starts wearing regularily after her character visits France. Also, who doesn't love Princess Leia and Amadala's hairstyles in the Star Wars franchise?

My first inspiration was Arwen from LOTR. I know that was just a wig but those waves looked so romantic - especially in comparison to all those straight-haired elvish folks... :p

Kate Winslet always has gorgeous hair but my favorite is the way it was in Titanic. So lovely. That red was amazing! I would love to have that hair but down to my knees. :p Her hair in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was also one of my very favorites. Those colors were just gorgeous! Especially the blue. I would also love that hair but down to my knees.

Again a sailor moon, but, Rei's hair is also amazing.
This is a bit out of topic but has anyone noticed how amazing Selena Gomez's hair used to be in the beginning of Wizards at Waverly? Of course it was all treated but it had a little extra something to it, if you can get what I'm trying to say. But, nowadays its gone.

Don't laugh at me...

I was (years ago) persuaded to regrow my shortyshortshort hair by the show "Xena" :o

I love Hudson Leick, AKA Callisto. I wanted hair like that. My hair, though I don't FEEL like it is, is actually longer than hers now.:D

ETA: here is a youtube link that shows her beautiful hair! Um, turn the volume off. LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sca8A_6MNw

ETA2: You know I haven't seen the show in years, and going back to look at some screen shots online now, I'm surprised to see that they really only had BSL to MAYBE WL hair. I guess back in the day, when I had very little hair that seemed SOOO long.

Two Helena Bonham-Carter characters: Lucy Honeychurch in Room with a View, and Ophelia in Hamlet.
Actually, once I was wearing my hair in a Gibson Girl bun while watching the former, and my mom came in and said "She has your hair!" So I'm a little biased.
Also, if anyone remembers the '80s sitcom "Head of the Class," the character Simone had beautiful long red curls.

Padme from Star Wars. Look at my avatar, pretty dead giveaway. Also Alicia Witt in Dark Kingdom. I am trying to get a pic from the movie but can't find one.

Alicia Silverstone in Clueless! I used to watch it over and over and over in my teens :) I think I may have reached that length now, finally! My colour used to be on the warmer side of hers but it's darkened quite a bit now.

And more recently Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario) in Pretty Little Liars. She always has such cool updos!

I was originally inspired to grow my hair out by some "gothy" characters and people. Some examples are Lily Munster from "The Munsters", Morticia Adams from the original "Adams Family" TV show, and a lovely Swedish goth model named Adora Batbrat who has wildly colored hair that I love, but somehow managed to keep good length too ( here is her blog to see her picture http://adorabatbrat.blogspot.com/ ).

oh wow, so many....
As I've said before in another thread, my original inspiration was Pocahontas from Disney's movie (oh how it flowed in the wind!).
Since then, I've seen lots of art that featured beautiful long hair. Particularly in anime related art, as many of those pieces tend to really use the lines and movement that hair can provide to its fullest extent. I can name many anime women that have hair I would kill for lol
One character I'll mention because even though she's supposed to be more normal (ie: her hair actually obeys the laws of gravity, and that's saying a lot for an anime character lol Her hair is pink but it doesn't go flying every time she turns her head a little), I just love the shape of her hair - it's long and thick with a little curl at the end...so pretty :-) This isn't the greatest picture, but you get the idea

Ha! LOtR was the movie (well, specifically Legolas :eyebrows:) that showed me that some real live men (as opposed to animated characters) can in fact pull off long hair. Yes, I'm aware that Orlando Bloom was wearing a wig or something...but it looked great, and that's more then I think I would have expected before that (I'm sorry to say that the only men I've ever seen in real life with long hair did not take care of it - often very dirty and looking as though most of it has broken or fallen out. I'm glad to see the men on this forum who take care of their hair! Go you! :cheese: )

Isabella of Angoulême from the 2010 Robin Hood with Russell Crowe. Her hair is just gorgeous and I would love it if my hair looked like that. It's somewhere past waist length, and I love the color and texture. (I wish there were better pictures, but these are the only ones I can find, gah! Morticia Addams w/o a doubt! Carolyn Jones wore a wig, of course, but it looked so natural. You believed it was her gorgeous, sleek black hair (with just a touch of curl). I loved that show!

Also loved the inscrutable Cousin Itt! What head of hair..and how good it looked. Nice and THICK and healthy..down to the ground!

The first time I thought that having long hair might be cool is when I saw Emma from H20 Just Add Water. Her hair wasn't even that long (somewhere belong BSL and waist) but I admired it anyway. For now I would say Boy Meets World and the incredible Topanga.

Yes, I know I am a big kid at heart :o

The first time I really WANTED to have long hair was because of Sarah Brightman. Her hair on the cover release "La Luna" is do die for... wow. I know they are extensions, and she still has extensions to this day, nonetheless, it triggered the desire to grow my hair longer. Oh... I wish I had her voice! :)

When I was little, no TV allowed. So: Rapunzel from a coloring book, Sleeping Beauty from a fairy tale collection with awesome pictures, Laura Ingalls' grown-up hair (her daughter wrote of it as being about ankle or heel length and worn in one thick braid down her back).
From the occasional movies we watched: Ariel (Little Mermaid), Princess Leia (probably my main subconscious inspiration).
From more recent years: Mother Gothel in Tangled (I can only dream of such amazing curls), the leading lady in John Carter (I forget her name and half the plot because I spent the entire movie drooling over her amazing hair jewelry).

Janeway's hair in Star Trek: Voyager, season 1, Message in a Bottle. That scene where she's in her nightie withe her hair down--WOW!

Ditto this. I always loved Janeway's hair and was SO bummed when she cut it.

Add me to the fans of Buttercup in Princess Bride. :)

When I was a little girl I always wanted hair like Pocahontas. She was just the ultimate package for me. I loved her.

OH! and let's not forget about Topanga from Boy Meets World. I have ALWAYS envied her hair! Especially in the earlier seasons.

Rose McGowan in Charmed had pretty hair, Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates, Topanga had great hair, Xena and Gabrielle (even though it isn't that long), and the little chick from the new movie Brave. I don't usually find many characters that I really love hair wise because I tend to love red, curly (and I mean CURLY) hair more than anything else. There is actually a member on here whose hair I adore, it always amazes me that its completely natural, no dye at all.

Guenevere in First Knight. Or really Guenevere in everything ever, but that's the one I remember as being the first time I really wanted long hair. Nope, i think Katinss's hair is actually like that (well, the actress's hair) in real life, I studied it the whole movie and tried to find extentions, and we will never know the truth but it looked to be her actual hair. Good thread! I feel I've been totally inspired from characters as much as real people :) Sailor Moon used to be a kind of inspiration but she was a little too unrealistic for me because of how straight and perfect her hair was so I dropped that... Though, As of last year, I came across the web comic "Homestuck", and a large number of the female characters of this alien race has very long, thick black hair. Sometimes the way they're drawn they have it from TBL to thigh to calf length hair. The character in my icon/avatar is one of the characters - she has the most similar hair to mine (and funnily is representative of the same star sign as me ha :P)
But yeah... Learned to also appreciate the thick and unruly type of extra long hair thanks to them :)

I've just recently seen Snow White and the Huntsman and my goodness, Charlize Theron's hair as the Queen is breathtaking, it was quite distracting from the movie itself!

I second this! Absolutely stunning!

also, morgana from merlin. I love all the intricate styles she had done, but i can't find a guide or reference to them anywhere so i want to get really good and familiar with techniques that 1 day i'll be able to look back at the series and figure out how they're done instantly!

Yep, I am with you there! Seriously love Morgana's hair in Merlin. Katie McGrath has such lovely hair. Definately my hair inpsiration.

Also, Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) in Doctor Who. I love her hair! She's got thickness, shine and such a gorgeous natural colour. So much envy! :D

All the women on The Borgias have great hair and incredible snoods and Juliet caps, I think that's what they're called, it's a netted and sometimes beaded ornament.

Romy Schneider in the Sissi trilogy. I love those movies... *sigh*
Yeah, the hair isn't real, but she has amazing hairstyles all throughout the movies and it's long and thick and thud-worthy. I was constantly in awe of her hair.

When I was little, I'm pretty sure it was the Disney princess model that had me wanting "hair I could sit on".
Nowadays, I'm inspired by Princess Buttercup, any one the elves in LoTR, and Deanna Troi from Star Trek: TNG. I know her hair isn't actually crazy long (and Marina Sirtis wore a hairpiece), but it's so lovely, curly, and thick. And we're talking seasons 2-5 and 7 as my favorites. Yes, I looked her hair up by season. Season 1 was not a flattering time for Troi.

Actually your hair looks very pretty. If that is yours down in your sig.

I love the Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen's hair from Game of Thrones. The light hair and the length and soft waves are beautiful.

Yes, Emmy Rossum in Phantom of the Opera had really nice hair.
The redhead in The Mentalist has great hair, and I am always impressed by the different ways she wears it. Sometimes she even sports hair toys. I love Ziva's hair in NCIS, but she doesn't change it much, and I don't notice anything special like hair barrettes.

I am watching Enchanted now, and Amy Adams' hair is nice, - not sure if it is all hers or not.
Oh, I almost forgot my all time favorite star and her hair - Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany's, and also Charade, but Breakfast At Tiffany's was my all-time favorite with Audrey, as she was so very glamorous and a quickly created up-do for her was so beautiful.

I've been watching a lot of Spartacus lately. Gannicus has hair that inspires me, not to mention he's really fit and quite pleasant on the eyes :crush:

I completely agree! I love the soft waves in their hair and how thick and healthy Cersei's hair looks! Great show, even better books!!!

Claire Danes in "Stardust." Both Claire and her hair are just beautiful.
I love Stardust! Not my original inspiration though. Whenever I saw very long hair I just felt...aaah...I want that!

Haha actually My hair is getting close to Sailor Mars length. About 10 more inches to go! My hair is also so dark brown that people always mistake it for black. In all honesty I think about half the people I know are colorblind (men AND women) because my hair is very obviously not black at all in person. I have a lot of fiery red/gold strands in it and it's just simply not possible that it's black. Maybe when it's soaking wet but not dry! But since my hair color is between to Jupiter and Mars they were always inspiration for me. Especially Mars since her length is my goal!

I don't watch a lot of TV or movies, but: Catelyn Stark from GoT (she doesn't get enough love), Arwen and Eowyn from LotR, and the handful of Bollywood movies I've seen. I tend to prefer dark hair over light, which is why Cersei and Danaerys don't get mentions from me (I also am not a huge fan of Dany's dark eyebrows paired with that white white hair in the show).
