Hey everyone. I'm posting progress pics from 05-08 to 02-12-11. If you have a good regimen, and you stay consistent, look at the progress you can make. I can't even believe that this is my hair now.

I love lurking on this board, because I see the great deal of attention the folks on here place on maintaining such gorgeous hair.

My major problem now that my hair has gotten longer is getting tangles and huge snarls on wash day. I have to work the knots out carefully. Not too many, but maybe one or two, and I hate losing the healthy hair that's caught in the shed. Here are the pics:

That's amazing growth. Wonder what it looks like curly now! :) For the knots, have a look at some of the tangle teezer threads (and do search YouTube for it):

Great growth!
As for the tangles, I just kind of detangle the knots in my hair with my fingers as best I can, pulling the ends of the tangled hair apart to try to loosen it up a bit, before trying to actually detangle the knot. It results in less ripped out and bent hairs for me.

Great growth!

I'm not a curly, but I have heard that it is easier to detangle curly hair if it's slathered in conditioner. When I wash my hair upside down, I get awful tangles. I find that washing right side up, and braiding my hair while wet helps to reduce tangles - if it's contained in a braid, there is not as much leeway for tangles to happen. Hope this helps :blossom:

Ladies, thank you so much for the kind comments regarding my progress!

I will look into the tangle teaser, and I'm going to try the idea of pulling the knots apart from the bottom as well. I think that might work out for me.

I see so many gorgeous heads of hair on this board, and I really enjoy reading the thoughts of others who "love hair". I see so many folks doing things to their hair that make me cringe, now that I know better, but I try not to be too self righteous when I am talking to folks who are not "hairophiles," even as I watch them rip through their hair mercilessly with combs, or using a pea sized dab of conditioner on their hair (if any at all)!

I was hoping that I was getting close to WL. I thought that my goal was WL, but I actually think it's HL (my goal is the top of my pants, and I tend to wear lowrise jeans).

Awesome progress! To help reduce tangles, I brush before washing with a wide tooth comb, and only wash my scalp with the shampoo. I just sort of squeeze the lather gently down my length. Gently rinse, and condition and finger comb while the conditioner is in. I use a ton on the length, a little on the scalp. After rinsing it out, I gently squeeze it with a towel, finger comb, and sometimes use a detangling leave in. I used to pile it all on my head to wash, condition, and towel dry, and I get so many fewer snarls now!
