Hey everybody!

http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/terryandjody/Smilies/thumb_smileyvault-cute-big-smile-2.jpgSeveral folks on the LHC forum have asked how I wear my hair while teaching Tae Kwon Do. I have several different ways I wear it, but here are a few impromptu pictures from our class this evening~ I am teaching the white belts their first form...

Very cool. Love the turquoise clips. And the place that you're teaching looks like straight-up paradise!

Are the parents of your students ok with you posting images of them on the internet?

I had to  at the little ones all facing different directions. My 11yo DS had his first testing session for promotion to yellow belt a couple weeks ago, and there was a 4yo and a 5yo in his class. One of the instructors had to constantly go up to little Sydney and switch her stance around from left foot to right, or vice versa, because she was always turned the wrong way 'round!

Watching little kids that age can be SO fun... when they were doing jumping jacks for the warming up period, the 4yo was moving his arms but not his feet, and the 5yo was jumping up and down in place but not moving her arms at all. We figured that if you added them together, they were 9yo and basically completing the entire jumping jack process. :D

And I agree with spitfire511 on your location -- need a roommate, by any chance? ;)

Whoa you are amazing.... and I like the way you style your hair.

I'm curious, I'm pretty sure some of your students ask you how you style your hairstyles?

How cute! I wish I could do this for Judo, but A) my hair is nowhere near long enough and B) It would never stay in.

Looks like fun... is it too late for me to start learning tae kwon do? i've always thought it would be great for strength and flexibility! Also, I love your practice space, it looks so light and airy!

((BTW: Merlin raises a good point, though, in NY posting them without explicit permission from the parents would be a legal problem, it might not be in your area though.))

Hey, thanks everybody for all the comments and posts! BTW, yes, I get written permission from the parents to post pictures taken during class. A good reminder, though!

We have class in our church building~ just move the benches and work out! It's a lot of fun :)

French plait into a cinnabun-type bun, held with two medium claw clips? Just curious as I'll be needing a hairstyle for when I get back to martial arts (soon hopefully!).

Also, do you do break falls, throws, rolls, etc? If so, how well does it hold up to those?

In my mind I was going for a french plait cinnabunned for martial arts ... except that I usually hold that up with 4 amish-type pins made out of double-pointed knitting needles and I'm worried that I might stab someone if they landed on me or if the pins fell out on the mats...

Thats a cool style. Clips like that don't hold well in my hair, unfortunately.

Those children are so cute.

When I was learning Ninjutsu basics a couple of years back, I used to keep my hair in one or two french braids. They'd only rarely get in my way at BSL length, and usually only when we were doing endurance exercises that involved crawling along the floor on your back-- everything started moving and shifting out of place at that point, as my gi could have fit a bit better.

Thank you for showing your hairstyle. I just started Tae Kwon Do classes last week, so it's of interest to me. In the past I did other martial arts and I just left my hair in a braid, but I think the braid got too much damage.

Thank you, everybody, for all the responses to my post! Yes, I had my hair in two French braids, held in a bun w/ two or three clips. I've found that personally when I use two or more clips my hair stays up no matter what I do. If it starts to come down while I'm exercising or teaching, I just stop and re-secure everything. :)

Yes, I love it here where we live! I can't imagine living in a place where the weather is not summer all year 'round! And I love my students! :)

An island life for me!
