When I joined last February, I knew that I wanted to grow my hair out, but I had no direction at all. At the time I shampooed and conditioned, in that order, about twice a week with Nexxus products. I heat styled regularly but used a protective spray.

February 2011, updos--we meet at last! :cheese:

After COing for several months, I'm now on the oil poo train. I oil poo about once a week with either White Rain shampoo or Dr. Bronner's and coconut oil. I use Panacea as a leave in, and do honey lightning treatments every now and then.

I'm grateful for all the wisdom I've gleaned from here in the last year!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and encouragement! At this point, as I'm just learning how to use forks and sticks, each up-do is an interpretative act.

And, yes, I do henna my hair! I began hennaing in April 2009, did full head applications every couple of months for a year, and since then have been doing root touch-ups and glosses every two months-ish. I can say that, at least for me, hennaing has made growing out my hair much easier. My individual strands seem stronger and slipperier, and even the ritual of applying it to myself has helped me feel better about my hair.

For any of the super shorties out there, don't get discouraged! The madness of growing out short, layered hair will pass. My hair seemed very thin to me for much of the time that I was growing it out because of the tricky layers.

What a pretty updo!! Is it a french twist? It the stick securing it or is that just for decoration?
