lyria

I just found the following hair fork on line which uses my user name "Lyria" as the title for the hair toy. :pirate:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/64572016/hair-fork-lyria-argentine-lignum-vitae?ref=sr_gallery_3&ga_search_query=hair%2Bsticks&ga_search_type=handmade

I want to be clear that I have no association with this fork and am not trying to sell or promote this fork or any other merchandise which may bear the name "Lyria" (which, frankly, I was pretty sure I made up, I am not happy about this). :disgust:

ETA: Nevermind! My main concern was that no one think I am here to sell something (which would be contrary to LHC rules). This is NOT meant as a rant and I have been informed that this is a word in other languages.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, there are lots of names out there and it doesn't look like someone is trying to be you. I made up a name once for my horse and one day I was talking to someone and they said their friend (insert said name) and I about freaked out because I seriously had put a couple of names togeter to get my horses name. :)

ETA: it's a beautiful name! I got this from a thinkbabynames :)
Lyria meaning and name origin

Lyria \l(y)-ria (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/ending/0/ria)\ as a girl's name is a variant of Lyris (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Lyris) (Greek), and the meaning of Lyria is "lyre (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/lyre)".
The baby name Lyria sounds like Loria (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Loria) and Lyra (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Lyra). Other similar baby names are Kyria (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Kyria), Lygia (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Lygia), Lyvia (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Lyvia), Lycia (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Lycia), Lydia (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Lydia), Lyric (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Lyric), Lyrica (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Lyrica), Syria (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Syria) and Tyria (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Tyria).

Lyria is such a pretty name, too. If I someday have another little girl, should I come ask your blessing before using it for her? j/k. Or am I?:)

ETA: No one used to be called Teela anywhere. Lately every time I try to register my username its already taken though! I've gotten used to automatically adding my birth year. I blame Tila Tequilla.

Of Course! :) My only concern really is with the rules here prohibiting the advertising or selling of commercial products. I want to make sure I don't get docked points or something (I'm also just not delighted that it's a product, I did not name myself after a hair fork!)

I think Lyria is also the name of a main character in Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" book series. There was a film made in recent years starring Nicole Kidman.

The name of the character is Lyra. Very similar. I just finished the first book and had to start the second right away. :D

We're talking about different things. :) I was referring to the Philip Pullman His Dark Materials books that Sister13 mentioned. The movie version of the first book was called The Golden Compass.

At least it's pretty ;)

In this instance, I think many members know the makers on a fairly personal level so plenty of people will know you aren't them.

Okay, I stand corrected (and no longer feel creative or unique). :o Hairfork away!

My book version says "Lyra" but I have not seen the movies.

Edit: Never mind, I was talking about the Golden Compass too!

I'm sorry!! Its all my fault about the movie/book mix-up :o:o
I guess that's what I get for reading posts during work. Somehow I merged two posts together, the one about Peter Pan and the one about the books. I rememberd the name form the Fairy movie so I assumed we were all talking about the same thing.
Once again. Sorry everyone.
And it is a very lovely name :)

I have read (and own) the entire Phillip Pullman "His Dark Materials" trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass) and the child's name is Lyra. The movie, "The Golden Compass," starring Nicole Kidman as Ms. Coulter is based on the book and the child's name is Lyra as well. I double-checked my books and just re-watched the movie last week. They pronouce it "Lie-ra" in the movie.

I hope that you will not continue this ridiculous rant, as that is the portugese spelling for the word Lily and it is not a made up name, and there was no knowledge of you or your being when it was retireived from the portugese dictionary. YOu are being overly rude to this shop and slandering them, and they have no association to you or mention of you in any way in thier descriptions.

Ummm, she DID say that she stood corrected a few posts back. I admit it might be a good idea to put an ETA in the first post to that effect but I think she realizes that name is more common than she thought.:blossom:

At any rate, the name and the hairfork are both lovely. I have been considering purchasing that particular hairfork for a while. I think it might aggravate the hubby though, since it is a bit pricey. (I better buy him a valentine's day present first.)

dont worry about it, believe it or not i thought i made up squiggyflop, yeah on one of the forums i joined when i started using the name squiggyflop the name was already taken and had been used for years before i 'made it up'

but Lyria is not a made up name really, im pretty sure ive heard it in a bunch of different places before

what im saying is that everything that you can think of has already been thought of so dont sweat it

I have now added an ETA to my first post. I think you may be reading more emotion into this thread than was ever intended. I am not ranting. I'm just not selling anything. Also, slander is a very specifically defined legal concept and my original post does not satisfy its elements.

Of course! That will make it easier for people to not jump to the wrong conclusions if they don't manage to make it to the end of the thread. Have a great day!

P.S. Maybe you should get one of those hairforks since you already "match," it is like it was meant to be!;)

Just to clarify... I don't think having a fork named after you (even if you were the one producing it) would be against LHC rules. If you had a link to said fork in your signature, trying to advertise/sell through LHC then it would be. There are several members with etsy stores that use their usernames here and there. The terms of service aren't quite that insane :)
