Hello, I'm new here, but I've been lurking for awhile.
I want to start being more creative with my hair, I have to wear it up most of the time for work (I work around food) and I'm sick of just having a boring ponytail. And it's just so long now, the pony tail will sometime sneak over my should and get in peoples food. So I'll braid it.

But I'd like to incorporate pretty things in my hair, I just can't seem to find anything almost Viking style (which I'm alittle obsessed about the Viking/Old Norse culture).

So if you wouldn't mind sharing, please do! Pictures would be awesome!

For Viking themed items, I can heartily recommend this gorgeous dragon-headed bone hairstick (http://www.etsy.com/listing/60328822/sale-hair-pin-cloak-pin-bone-organic). I have one just like that! Ravenslair has also had some Viking-themed things lately, like this (http://www.etsy.com/listing/59980506/innovative-new-design-thors-hammer).

Let's see. We have the Elling Woman braided bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=14032), and we have the Viking Knot bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=27247&highlight=viking+knot).

Oh thank you ladies! Those are beautiful! I'm going to have to get me the hair stick. And I'm also going to try that Elling Woman hairstyle! I'm so excited!

When you have enough posts, make sure you show up photographs of the styles you try!

Here are a few cool braid ideas, I really like the third one in the top row (celtic leia with twists and zig zag part) although I'm not quite skilled enough with multi strand braids just yet to do something like that. I'd have to try it as three strand french braids.

Woops. I just realised those threads I posted are a bit old, and the Viking Knot thread specifically does not show photos, for the site's bandwidth's sake.

I have photos of both styles in my albums, and if you need help with either, please don't hesitate to ask!

I'd love to see them!
I tried my own variation the Elling briad yesterday, I forgot to take a picture, but I will tonight when I get ready for work. Sadly my hair isn't long enough quite yet to have the rest of the braid hang down and actually look pretty. Well you'll see tonight.

Oh my goodness; the bellabraids are AMAZING. Love the bone stick site too; must order; saved the link.

My grandma (Native Canadian) showed me a braid called "the snake braid" once. All I can remember is that it involved 4 strands, I don't recall the instructions, but you could probably look it up.
Other than that, most of my family just does braids, usually a single normal braid, or low ponytails.
