I'm positive its been tried successfully. Go for it! Although some people are apparently allergic to parts of aloe. If you use it for other stuff with no problems it should be fine.

I know the varigated type isnt as good as plain for healng purposes but not sure if there is a difference for hair.

I used to use my plant.
My only advice is not to allow the yellow part closest the the green part of the leaf into your gel. It contains Aloin and it's an irritant.
