This is what it looks like freshly washed!

Her problem is that if she combs it out it looks like a poodle, and if she leaves it to dry naturally it looks messy. She has a professional job, so neither of those will do.

Any suggestions? Any ideas on her hair type. Her hair is SUPER thick, too.

2b. It would be 2c if she had a few spirals somewhere.

I would say a 2b maybe 2c

I'd say 2B, too - it's beautiful!

I'm also going to vote 2b/2c. Has she tried "pre-forming" her wurls so they make larger clumps?

When I'm done in the shower, I add conditioner to my wet hair, then comb it to detangle, and as the tresses come out the back side of the comb, I use my fingers to make them "clump" together into bigger groupings.

Instead of looking like this:

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

I end up with this:

|||| |||| |||| |||| |||| ||||

Gives it more of an "I meant for it to look like this" appearance this way.

I agree, 2b/2c.

It's similar to my hairtype, and I totally understand the poofy if combed/messy if not combed dilemma! My hair responds best if it has plenty of moisture: a leave-in conditioner is essential. I squeeze the conditioner into my soaking wet hair after a wash; as I am squeezing water out I am squeezing conditioner in. This helps the waves to hold together better.

Another great way to tame waves is damp bunning: put her hair into a bun as it dries. This gives me straighter, smoother waves. Here's how my hair looks when dried bunned (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=2443&pictureid=43765) vs dried loose (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=2443&pictureid=67015).

Sorry to hijack ... which bun did you use that gave you such symmetrical & loose bun waves?

I do a loosely twisted cinnabun secured with claw clips, and every few hours I take it down, shake out my hair to get a little air in it, and then re-bun it, twisting it in the opposite direction.

That makes sense ... I will try it! I think the part I'm missing is the re-bunning with the twist in the opposite direction.

I think I do see some spirals, so my vote is 2C. Up-dos can be quite professional looking.
