I had something similar happen years and years and years ago. Luckily I had more curl back then and it just made my hair really full....or at least I convinced myself of that. :rolleyes:

I have seen this hair cut on girls I know. They used large barreled curling irons to put what I want to call "vertical" curls into it. It looked good when curled, but strange on straight days.

Remember a few years back there was a youtube video with this exact same premise, you know the one where a young bride was with her two bridesmaids and she was so freaked out about her wedding that she took some scissors and cut off all her own hair? Well, the whole thing turned out to be a prank, and the young woman wasn't getting married and she was planning on cutting her hair very short anyway.

No one with even a day of real haircutting experience would cut hair like that. They would know that in order to do a layered cut correctly, that you have to take one section of hair at a time, hold it up at desired angle and then cut it.

Whoever cut this person's hair simply HACKED INTO IT straight across. There are are no angles that are cut into it, so technically it wouldn't even be considered a layered haircut. There's no way any hairstylist would cut hair like this and NOT know they would be sued.

There's a part of my pessimistic enough to believe it's true, but I can't imagine a hairdresser doing that. For one, that's like seven seconds of scissors. That's not something even the worst hairdresser would aim for; you might expect some weird asymmetry or unevenness, but not a literal hack job.

I've seen some cosplay-hair / anime-hair which looked similar. Not sure if it was intended to look that chunky or not. I'm a total anime noob, guess I'm too old to really get it :p watched Bugs Bunny as a kid.

And I have friends who did crazy things to their hair to have some extreme haircuts for fun & giggles because they planned to buzz it soon anyways.

Also, hmm some runway styles from I think around 2007 come to mind, too.

Not every extravagant/exotic style is an accident. Tastes vary :shrug:.

Yeah, sure, hairdressers don't give you what you want sometimes, or most of the time, depending on who you ask, and yes, we complain about that... a lot, because yes, it hurts a lot when that happens, but... it's hard for me to believe that a stylist actually did that to her. That is horrifying. Uneven cut, so blunt, thinned too much on some parts, doesn't really look like proper layers. Like my DBF said: "It looks like she took a machete and chopped at it!"

That is terrible. The only way I can imagine a professional doing that is if it was for one of those hair shows, where all of the styles are bizarrely geometric and "avante garde." The photos are always interesting, but you have to wonder what the poor models' hair looks like when they try to style it themselves! And now, I think we know.

YIKES! Years ago my daughter wanted a layered hair cut and what the stylist was doing looked something like that. My daughter hopped out of the chair early crying "Stop! Don't cut any more!" The stylist said she could fix it, but daughter said "no!" (I'm so proud of how she always stands up for herself, except when it's against me - haha.) We didn't pay, either. We were able to get it fixed at a different salon.

As I described above, I actually witnessed a hair stylist cutting layers similar to this. She must have graduated at the bottom of her class, or didn't like my daughter, or something.

It wouldn't be my personal first choice of style. But I do like the colours. People can style their hair however they like. It won't offend me. Their hair their choice. I am sure there are plenty of people who would say that my hair wouldn't be their first choice either! We are all different and should do what is right for us - not what other people want us or expect us to do.

If someone's hair was butchered by a very bad hairdresser/young child/chicken farmer, we can feel sorry for that poor person. If this cut was intentional, I look at it this way - if I was getting a very unusual haircut, color, piercing, clothing, etc., I would expect to receive attention; that's human nature. Some of that attention will be positive, but some will be negative. Either way, some people will express their opinions, so I have to accept that.

Thanks Bonkers57; I was trying to find a way to say this. No look is everybody's cup of tea, and some people don't like the cut they have on their own heads. I was reading an interview by Jennifer Aniston a little while ago where she was talking about how much she hated the very popular Rachel haircut that she wore on Friends. She did throw in a disclaimer "I loved the stylist to death, but ..." so let's all mentally send our blessing to the head under that interestingly layered hair and don't get ourselves turned inside-out over opinions different from our own.

I feel the need to say that the haircut is a trip, and I'm all for people doing whatever the hells they want to themselves, with themselves or their hair.. I just want people to be happy and feel like they can be themselves no matter what. I agree with everyone that said we're all entitled to our own opinion, and yes, if you cut your hair in a more unusual style you might want to expect snide remarks. But does that really mean we need 7 pages of posts insulting the same single hairstyle?
