Any suggestions regarding protective updos for BSL ?

Hi ! I have just reached BSL and I am trying to find out which type of updos could work for my hair in order to keep it safe and protected especially when I am outdoors. I have curly hair and a bit of damaged ends.
Any suggestions are mostly welcomed:)

For me a cinnabun works best. I wear it at night with claw clamps on the end and the sides and during the day with a broad clip.

I was BSL before I chopped in October (got rid of a lot of damage). My favorite buns were the lazy wrap and the nautilus, and of course the cinnabun! The lazy wrap has to be my all time favorite though.

Thank you for the tips ! I am reading instructions now on how to do the buns :)
The problem is that I have very thin ends, so it gets always difficult to take the last steps in order to complete a bun.

Then I bet you'll really like the lazy wrap bun. It's wrapping the fine ends under the mass of the bun that makes it stay.

Oh, and another couple to try is Spidermom's Bun that Stays and the Flipped Bun (tutorials in the Articles section). The Spidermom bun is another one that depends on wrapping the fine ends under the main part of the bun, and the Flipped Bun is just plain classy-looking.

This thread is like a foreign language! What is a cinnabun, claw clamp, broad clip, lazy wrap etc...? I apologize if I'm pesty, I am behind the learning curve and trying to catch up! One of the things I am most interested in at this point is ways to put my hair up without hurting it. However I have NO skill in updo-ing my own hair!

Wow! I needed this thread. Thanks so much Nordlys! I am just past BSL, too. I am going to try the lazy bun and the nautilus, though all of my buns that are not braided tend to fall out. I exercise a lot and I usually tend to just do a loose braid wrapped with an all cloth hair tie to keep my hair out of the way since I gave up ponytails!

It took forever to load but I watched this video. I like the style but I have a couple of questions. What is she pinning with? Is it the horseshoe "open" type bobby pins? How do you anchor them? I've never been able to make them hold.

I think she uses the horseshoe types, but I use ordinary bobby pins with no problems :) I think getting them to stay in is a matter of threading it through the spiralled hair and the flat hair on the scalp (so the rounded bit will be right in the edge), then making sure it weaves in then out of the hair underneath a little. It's really hard to describe.

I'm just past BSL and that's what I've done a lot, though I like to do it with rope braids, gives a more interesting look somehow. This is also good for hiding oily hair, it holds very well and you can sleep in it if you want to!

They hold very well, you just have to direct a pin to the opposite side a bit, grip a strand of "base" hair with it and then tuck it into the targeted place. HTH

Yes, that's Spidermom's bun. Except that I forgot that was how she did it - I just make one loop at the beginning and where she takes the two loops to opposite sides, I split the one loop in half. It looks a little different, but it works well too.
