Hi,

A friend of mine has very straight, fine, smooth hair. She wants it to have more body. Other than using bar soaps, which are more alkaline and might open up the hair follicles, any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ivy

Beer rinses will give more shine and body for a few weeks: one thread link here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=55808&highlight=beer+rinse).

A caramel treatment (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=454&highlight=caramel+treatment) will give you more body, shine and moisture but it is generally too heavy for straight fine hair. I have 1c/2a very fine hair, however, and love caramel treatments... but I can also deal with heavy oiling for a few days at a time -- this could be due to the thickness of my hair overall.

ETA: I don't have any experience with shampoo bars, but if she's worried about the alkalinity a ACV rinse should help balance everything out, the same way they will with regular shampoo. Member's with more experience can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong. :o

The largest size rollers you can find at a place like Target and then leaving them in hair slightly damp to the touch for 1-2 hours will help :)

If she blowdries she can also try do that with her head upside down.
