I've tried

sleeping with foam rollers and damp hair
Caruso on dry hair while I'm getting ready (20-30 min.)

BUT, some days I get amazing curls that last until the next day and other days curls are gone in hours! What am I doing wrong? Are there any extra factors related to how hair holds curls?

How do you get your curls to hold without using product and/or dry heat?

I recently tried my hand at sock-curls (use socks as you would rag curlers applied to slightly damp hair and sleep on them) and absolutely loved the result. Mine held and slowly relaxed to loose waves throughout the day. My hair does hold a curl quite well on its own though.

They do look crazy when you first take them out, but some finger-combing and water misting till you're satisfied helps tame them.

I love easy, heat-free, curling methods.

I find that my hair holds curl better if it has been decently moisturized, especially so if I also use oil prior to washing. I also get better curls using cone-free conditioner and shampoo (I currently use Urtekram Aloe Vera conditioner and even fully dry hair takes on waves and curls easily).

The weather might be to blame too. If it's a humid/rainy day chances are your curls will fall out.
