Does anyone elses hair change a lot depending on the light?

I call myself a light brunette, since whenever we get hairpieces for dance the lightest brown always matches perfectly. I just think the difference is funny. I prefer the sunlight the mostest.

I don't even know what the lighting is in this.

everyone's hair looks different in different lightings. mines naturally light brown but in some brighter lights it looks blonde but in other lights it looks kinda gray. then in natural light it actually looks light brown.

My hair does that too. It usually looks dark brown but when it is a bit oily it looks almost black and under flourescent lighting it looks like it has red undertones.

Incandescent and flourescent lighting can make your hair look a different color. Natural lighting is the best.

My hair looks very dark chestnut, almost black, in indoor lighting. In outdoor sun, especially when back lit, it looks like black cherry jello.

I have red-auburn highlights through my hair, very weak naturally but brought out more by ACV rinses. They only really show up in direct sunlight and camera flash, generally my hair appears a dull brown, but I'm quite fond of it.

mine changes a lot :) Inside, it's brownish. Outdoors, it's reddish brown. In camera flash it can be pretty much orange. I guess I'll stick with 'brown with some red' as a descriptor :)

Mine does the exact same thing, its the brunette effect :)

I have the typical "dish-water" blonde hair...but I just call it dark blonde, hehe. It's very ashy, so it can look light brown or greyish in some lighting. I haven't seen my natural color grown out for so long...I'm wondering if it's a little darker now that I'm older. :D

Definitely. People always ask me if I've dyed my hair if I'm seeing them in different light than I did the last time.

My hair has red undertones that really come out strong in some kinds of lighting (i.e. bright natural light). I also have natural highlights - my hair is medium brown but some individual hairs are actually very light brown, almost blonde, and sparkle in the light. Those reflect light so yeah my hair looks "livelier" or duller depending on the light.

:D My hair is a great changer of colours. When there is no direct light it looks black or a very dark brown but in bright natural light the reddish tones come to life. ;) Of course it seems much darker in updos and lighter when down (it's wavy and a bit fly-away).

Mine does that too. When I'm in indoor lighting it looks dark, almost black. Then when I'm in outdoor lighting it looks almost like I have henna'd it, it's super red! But its gotten redder over the past few months, even in indoor lighting.

Yup, mine does it too. My avatar picture is in fluorescent lighting, incandescent brings out the gold tones, and a bright sunny day gives me mostly gold with red highlights. Of course if it's wet it goes chestnut brown! ;)

Edit to add: And I love what sunlight does to my s.other's hair. He has gorgeous nearly black curls, but in the sunlight he gets red glints, especially in his beard. It's not really a color change, but it's definitely something that only really shows up in some light.

Mine too. I have dark hair but depending on daylight, artificial light and the objects that sorround me it gets different colors, chocolate, chestnut, ginger brown, reddish brown.

I think everybody's color changes depending on the lightning.

I also noticed that sometimes it changes dramatically when I use different kinds of shampoo or the same one but for a prolonged period of time, or even the difference each day after wash day makes on my hair color (and it is not greasiness, I kid you not). But again, I am a medium blond, so the pigment in my hair is quite light and unstable.

Your hair is very pretty! My hair color varies a lot, too, except the top, which always looks silvery/white.

My color varies a lot too. I'm a dark ash blond, and only in sunlight can you actually tell it's still some sort of blond. In darker settings it rather looks a dull brown. People have asked me lots of times whether I had it died or bleached, depending on the lighting.

I assume that natural light shows hair in it's true color.

It's pretty normal for hair to look different in different lightings. My natural colour varies from blonde to mousy brown, is lighter in summer and darker in the winter. Talk about chamaeleon hair :D

It still happens with my hennaed hair, it just looks more red but the colour difference has basically remained the same.

I call mine chameleon hair! In some lights it looks golden and in others you can really see the red but sometimes it looks light brown, and in some lights my silver hairs show. I have to admit I love it when the light brings out the red :)

My hair is this way too. I think everyone is like this. My hair sometimes looks strawberry blond, gold or in between. I kind of like it. :)

I took some pictures in natural light, to try to take one that's representative of my color, and failed miserably. Even in direct sunlight, the color changed from angle to angle. I took snippets from each of the pictures, and compiled them to compare the colors. I henna'ed last year, so I took all the snippets from around the crown where my hair is virgin, to keep the color consistent. But yeah, I see golden blonde, ash blonde, reddish brown, and golden brown.

Regarding color change, I found a hair-color twin in one of my friends. And I mean exactly the same color, when we put the bottoms of our strands together in sunlight, the two blended perfectly, you couldn't tell which hair was mine and which was hers.

I told my old hairdresser about my friend, because my hairdresser had always admired the color of my natural hair. And she asked me, "Does her hair have all the same prisms as yours?" I didn't know what she was talking about at the time, but after examining my hair in direct sunlight on multiple occasions, I think she was referring to the way it reflects many tones of color. But I still don't know exactly what she meant by it. Anyone else know? Is that a technical beauty school term to identify hair color, or is that just the word she used?

I seriously can not figure out how your hair should be described. Light golden reddish brown or dark reddish brownish blonde?

Me too. Inside, in artificial light, or on a dull cloudy day, it can definitely be described as mousy light brown. But in sunlight, it's dark gold with highlights of just about every colour, including bright silver. If I get a lot of sun it gets really deep natural highlights & goes pale honey coloured on the top layers. My daughter's hair is the same colour (sans the grey!)

Mine differs too a lot. In sunlight it's this light sandy brown with a bit of red in it, and in artificial lighting it looks nearly black

So does mine.
I was sharing my hairstyle on another thread, and thought the difference in color was pretty drastic. :)
