Twin French or Dutch braids?

My hair is a couple of inches shorter than yours, also with lots of layers ... here are some updos that I like to do.

Peacock twist - sorry it's so dark; bigger picture here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=4650&pictureid=89051)

My hair is about the same length as jaine's and I do double French braids, double buns (anime style) and the Gibson tuck a lot. I especially like doing a Gibson tuck because it's so easy but everyone thinks it looks really sophisticated and difficult.

Jaine! I love the tutorial. Your hair looks so healthy. I also notice you are using the Spin Pins! I just got some in the mail last week and I love them. They are way better than any regular bobby pin (for me).

Thank you! :)
I love the spin pins too ... I can also use them for the french twist and peacock twist. (although bobby pins work for those too, I just like the spin pins better!)

Jaine said it, alright. :D You could also try this bun: a split looped ponytail with a hairstick. (I almost can do that and I'm shoulder layered)

These are great :) I'm going to have to try the spin pins. Just noticed you're growing out from a pixie too! Hard, isn't it? :)

Lurker says thanks so much for these ideas - I feel like I do a French twist every day now, since there isn't much else I can do with my own shoulder length layers, but I love the idea of the double sideways twists to mix it up!

For the sock bun, I love the look but my hair is so thin I think I need to try a smaller sock. Sigh. It does look cute though, and so full!

Can we all have some love for SPIN PINS?! I got some at the store today and I'm quite smitten!

Lots of spin-pin love from me! Oh, and I did wear my first sock bun to work yesterday... held with a spin pin (love!) and two very pretty hair sticks for decoration :)

My hair is the same as yours! Just past shoulders, wavy, layered, and thick. I have been trying to figure out new ways to do my hair too. I have had success with the sock bun. It's a little messy, due to the layers, but I like it that way. (I have pics in my album but can't figure out how to post them into this thread). I was going to try the Gibson Tuck but need to get some kind of clip or comb to hold my hair before I can try. Twin french braids also work, but I don't do them often, takes too much time and I'm generally running late. :o Try seeing if you can get hairsticks to work yet, I got my hair up in sticks last night...not well enough to stay all day but I saw it as a positive sign that my hair was getting longer. Try sticks and see what happens!

I thought I´d share some tips that would I could have needed when my hair was shorter.I´m almost at classic today.

Use a spraybottle with water and moist your hair before and during the updo making. It helps a lot.

Many buns are impossible to make with shorter hair.Start with a pony tail and hold it with a rubberband-this way it doesn´t fall down.

Use a BBB or a Tangle teezer to comb your hair into place while making the updo, then spray with the waterbottle.

Massaging your scalp every evening for 10 min at least will make your hair grow faster and healthier.

Hope this helps someone:)

Medusa Bun (see my album)? The top may show pins a bit (it did for me), but you can cover with something (ribbon, flower). Also, making smaller braids helps a lot for keeping things interesting, but not eating length like crazy (for example, lace braids, or double French). Also, to hide the escapees from Dutch/French braids, I use a large claw at the bottom. Hope that helps!
