View Full Version : Job updos

I just got a new job (hooray!) and I'm looking at what I can do with my hair. I blowfried it for the interview and my hair, once used to the abuse, frizzed and all of my ends have opened up like flowers in spring. Ugh. I'm doing a S&D as we speak.

I'm used to wearing my hair either down on wash day, or up in a nautilis bun for work when it's a little on the greasy side. I'm looking to expand my repitoire for a business casual setting. How do you guys wear your hair for work?

I'm just past BSL and on my way to another spurt (I can FEEEELLLLL it), very fine and slight wave, but no body to speak of. I prefer not to pull my hair slick back because I have a very high forehead.

PS, forgive me if this thread already exists... my google-fu is lacking today.

Generally I feel it's better to stick with a limited repertoire at work, lest your new coworkers focus more on your nifty new updo of the day instead of the good work you're doing, KWIM? My work hair has only 2 modes: down, or up in my signature "pork bun" updo.

Other good options would be a French Twist:

Or a sock bun:

What's a "pork bun"?

It's a bun (naturally) invented by a little piggy (that's me!) . . . it comes in many variations, but this is the one for the office:

This is the casual, t-shirt & jeans version:

Then there's the avant-garde look, for cocktail parties:

There's also one that goes with more formal attire:

Woo! Didn't realise there would be such high demand (^(oo)^)

Porkbun tutorial is forthcoming, as soon as I figure out how to coherently describe the steps, and how to actually capture decent quality video with my digicam . . .

I like to wear braids for work. You can do them with a side part or middle part if you don't want to pull your hair straight back. One of my faves is to wrap two braids (Chinese bun style) or simply french/Dutch braid. A great simple but smart bun is a knot, and French twists or log rolls always look smart, imo. :)

Haha. It's such a funky bun. Has personality ;) After looking in your album last night I tried searching pork bun hoping there already was a tutorial lol. Thank you for making one.
